General Function:
The Assistant Director will collaborate with the Director, provide strategic guidance to the entire District, and on various occasions be called to act on behalf of the Director. The Assistant Director provides an educational environment for employees and students that is safe and conducive to student learning. Assists with the duties of the Director of implementing programs for Crossing Guards, Security, and Emergency Management. Ensures that the district is in compliance with all federal, state, and municipal mandates with regard to safety and security, including the National Incident Management System and the Incident Command System.
Education/Training Experience:
Minimum:
Five (5) years of experience in some combination of risk management, facility security, safety training, school emergency preparedness, or school emergency management. Proven leadership experience in managing and training groups of employees and/or contract employees.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree. Specialized training in school emergency preparedness or school emergency management, preferably through Homeland Security. Previous police experience. Bilingual. Experience working with secondary students.
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of all issues, standards, and guidelines related to school emergency preparedness and management, including the National Incident Management System and Incident Command System. Knowledge of City of Santa Fe City and County Ordinances and of State law. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before administrators, staff, parents, and students. Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the field of multi-hazard emergency planning for schools. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Knowledge of all district requirements and Board of Education policies related to safety and risk management.

Salary Range and Benefits:
$82,000 to $92,000+ and benefits

Standard office equipment. Basic Office Computer program abilities. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Google platform, etc.) Appropriate safety equipment, as needed, based on training or observation. An automobile to travel between sites.
Physical/Cognitive Requirements:
Ability to lift 40 pounds. Must be able to work late afternoons and occasional night/weekend hours. Manual dexterity to operate computers, office, and safety equipment. Ability to walk large campuses.
Environmental Conditions:
Most work is performed in an indoor setting. Must have the ability to sit at a desk or computer for extended periods. Field work is required to visit and supervise staff and conduct drills at school sites. Requires physical exertion, including some walking, bending, and reaching. The environment may be hectic with frequent interruptions and noise, particularly during emergency situations.
Essential Job Functions:

Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the District. Current essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
selecting, training, supervising, and evaluating employees or contract security officers;
coordinating security at athletic events with the Athletic Director and at special events as needed;
scheduling shifts and controlling overtime;
providing monthly or quarterly reports on incidents and resolution to the Superintendent, and
developing security procedures; and
reviewing invoices for guard services.
selecting, training, and supervising crossing guard staff, ensuring there is adequate staff both before and after school; working with students to develop safety awareness; and developing award programs for schools.
Propose and develop information, policies, and procedures related to Crisis Response, emergency preparedness, and response. Trains personnel, and regularly evaluates and updates the plans, parent communications, and the SFPS website.
Facilitates both the District Safety Steering Committee and District Safety Committee, monthly meeting of school and community representatives (law enforcement, fire, health, private agencies, hospital, etc.)
Ensures that State-mandated emergency drills (Shelter in Place, Lockdown, offsite Evacuation) are conducted at all school and office sites as required by law.
Ensures that each school and administrative site has a functional Crisis Response Team following the protocol of the District Crisis Response Plan and National Incident Management System and Incident Command System.
Updates and revises the District Crisis Response Plan as required by law and ensures copies are in each classroom and office.
Ensures that any non-public offsite indoor evacuation sites have required temporary liability insurance from the District.
Serves as departmental liaison with school administrators, all law enforcement agencies, and the Santa Fe City/County Fire Department
Maintains and verifies the inventory list of two-way radios used in all schools and at the District level for emergency communications. Maintains and monitors the central office (ESC) two-way radio base station.
Identifies funding sources for emergency preparedness supplies (lockdown buckets, safety vests, grab and go bags, etc.) and ensures supplies are replenished as needed.
Serves as Point of Contact for Campus Crime Stoppers, referring reports to appropriate administrators, tracking follow-up, and directing promotion of the program throughout the District and to parents.
Conducts debriefings after significant incidents and events throughout the District.
Develops relationships with community emergency resources (law enforcement, fire, health, private agencies, hospitals, etc.).
Develops effective ways to recognize and award contributions to safety and security by students, staff, and parents.
May be involved with investigations related to employee fraud, theft, security breaches, and provide required reporting of such incidents as directed by Human Resources, the Superintendent, or the Deputy Superintendent.
With Human Resources, represent and provide documentation during unemployment hearings of former employees who have been terminated for violating district policies and/or criminal activity, and subsequently submit requests for unemployment compensation from the state.
Respond to after-hour calls from staff and/or contractors.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
