Note: All positions with Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) require a post-offer/pre-employment background check. Some positions have additional requirements as established by federal or state rules and regulations. This position is funded by the Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) federal grant, awarded to NMPED in 2024. Funding is dependent upon congressional appropriation each year.

General Function

The CLSD Literacy Coach will support school sites in implementation of structured literacy and evidence based literacy instructional practices in CLSD subgrantee districts. CLSD Literacy Coaches must have the ability to support teachers, interventionists, and administrators in planning, organizing, and delivering instruction to meet individual and school needs utilizing state guidelines and district or charter school Literacy Plans. Assignments will be in person. Literacy Coaches will also be responsible for developing and delivering professional learning opportunities related to school needs in structured literacy evidence based practices. This position is funded by the CLSD federal grant, awarded to NMPED in 2024. Funding is dependent upon congressional appropriation and PED award to SFPS each year.

Education/Training/Experience

(Basic minimum requirements are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the District.)

Minimum: Bachelors in Education. Five years of experience in K-8 education. Level 2 or 3 teaching license. Bilingual: English-Spanish. Five years of experience in Bilingual/EL Education.

Preferred: Masters in Education with a focus on Literacy. License with reading endorsement. Completion of LETRS training and / or AIM Pathway training. Mix of relevant experiences including: Delivering professional development support to teachers and school site personnel; Data collection and analysis; familiar with high school reform/design and working with diverse populations and needs; providing training or technical assistance; Understanding of best practices for adult learning.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated general knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Demonstrated knowledge of various routine tasks, duties and procedures and the ability to follow specific instructions with little or no previous experience. Teaching and coaching experience in elementary settings. Experience providing training or technical assistance. Experience developing and/or advocating for effective instructional practices. Understanding of best practices for adult learning. Ability to exercise considerable and sound judgment to instruct students and manage their behavior. Willingness to improve competency by periodically participating in professional growth and to remain current with the latest developments in the profession. Ability to deal with various ethnic groups. Strong organization, communication, and Interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents. Must have skill in oral and written communication. Needs the ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies. Able to work collaboratively to achieve the overall goals of the school and the District.

Essential Job Functions

Performs all functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Provide professional development in structured literacy strategies, evidence-based instructional practices and HQIM implementation.

  2. Support up to 25 teachers annually within the district.

  3. Conduct coaching cycles.

  4. Support data collection and analysis to ensure that data is being used effectively to inform instruction to support student growth and achievement.

  5. Provide and model for teachers a collection of effective instructional strategies to draw upon in their instructional practices.

  6. Attend and support effective Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) on instructional practices, data support, classroom environments, or literacy research needed to support ongoing development of teachers.

  7. Support teachers in data analysis to guide instruction.

  8. Utilize NMPED's pedagogical and training supports in coaching.

  9. Attend required NMPED training.

  10. Adhere to CLSD statutory requirements and work only on CLSD related work.

  11. Create a collaborative partnership with teachers to support the implementation of new teaching practices in the classroom.

  12. Adhere to all grant implementation processes, procedures, and expectations.

  13. Keep coaching logs as required for documentation of CLSD activities.

  14. Use the coaching model and structure provided by NMPED.

  15. Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.

  16. Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Santa Fe Public Schools.

  17. Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.

  18. Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.

  19. Shares responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.

  20. Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.

  21. Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.

  22. Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within the area of responsibility.

  23. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Salary Range and Benefits

Based on education, experience, and level of NM Teaching License. Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available to full and part-time employees that work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Tier 2 License: $60,000+

Tier 3 License: $70,000+

Salary contingent upon CLSD grant funding.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements

Regularly required to stand; move throughout a room and/or facility. Communicate verbally and electronically. Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Occasionally required to sit, climb, and balance, and drive. May have occasion to perform heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and private automobile. Some evening or weekend work may be required. Travel for professional learning required.

Environmental Conditions

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: music room, classrooms, gym, auditorium. Literacy Coach will be subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, noise, and hazards. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
