General Function:

The Community School Coordinator works in collaboration with school staff, community partners and community members to provide support and services to students and families in order to enhance their emotional/social well-being and academic performance. This person has a wide range of job functions. The coordinator is often called on to help students, families and staff members address diverse and sometimes intense issues that surface in the school environment.

Required Education and Experience:

Minimum: High school diploma; 3 years of related experience in education, social work, counseling

or program development/implementation

Preferred: Bilingual in English/Spanish; Bachelor's in Social Work, Counseling or Education

or Level I Teaching License

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

Experience with or knowledge of restorative justice practices in schools

Experience with or knowledge of trauma informed practices

Strong organizational, communication and written skills (including public speaking)

Bilingual Spanish preferred

Effective time management

Ability to develop community contacts and initiate program delivery in an independent fashion

Ability to understand and be open to different cultures and communities

Ability to plan, organize, and implement complex projects, and activities

Capability to take initiative, and follow through on task

Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Suite

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others

Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Adeptness to work within a public school district system

Flexible, solution focused, and able to think outside the box to problem solve

Essential Job Functions:

All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the school site.

  • Support "Whole School Transformation" through the community schools strategy (strategic, intentional, and transformational)

  • Develop, maintain, and guide a site-based leadership team

  • Complete an annual needs and asset assessment

  • Review data and identify focus areas

  • Complete a root cause analysis, identifying root causes and analyzing needs

  • Organize assets and community partners to create targeted solutions

  • Implement solution(s), evaluate impact and outcomes

  • Follow the six (6) key practices of the community schools strategy: Powerful student and family engagement; Collaborative leadership, shared power and voice; Expanded, culturally enriched learning opportunities; Rigorous community-connected classroom instruction; Culture of belonging, safety and care; Integrated systems of support

  • Address non-academic and out-of-school barriers to learning through partnerships with social and health services agencies and providers that may include school-based or school-linked health care

  • Establish student and family support services

  • Include before-school, after-school, weekend, summer and year-round programs that provide additional academic support, enrichment activities

  • Coordination of programming that may be offered in partnership with community-based organizations to enhance academic learning, social skills, emotional skills and life skills aligned with the school's curriculum

  • Provides opportunity for experiences of people from diverse backgrounds as empowered partners in decision-making and encourages partnerships with parents or caregivers to develop and promote a vision for student success

  • Offers courses, activities and services to parents, caregivers and community members

  • Builds a culture of professional learning, collective trust and responsibility

  • Other duties as assigned

Salary Range:

$36,619 - $81,488+ (Dependent on degrees, certifications, and relevant years of experience)
