General Function:

Educators engage with children during play, plan and facilitate learning experiences through play. They actively engage with children, modeling language and the acquisition of social skills. They assist with children's personal hygiene.

Education/Training/Experience

(Basic minimum requirements are subject to change from time to time to meet the District's needs.)

Minimum: High School graduate

Preferred: Previous student tutoring or mentoring experience, community-based academic support program. Bilingual: English and Spanish

Essential Job Functions

All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential functions include the following:

  • Develop and implement developmentally appropriate early childhood instruction.
  • Serve as a model in developing students' language and behavior.
  • Supports a classroom environment conducive to learning by managing appropriate student behavior.
  • Supports the teachers in the observational assessments required for documentation of student's progress.
  • Assist in the management/redirection of students who may exhibit challenging behaviors.
  • Monitor children's activities in classrooms and school grounds.
  • Assist in caring for student needs: May include such duties as feeding, cleaning, diapering, clothing changes, etc.
  • Assist with the custodial skills of students, including liftning, positioning, and adaptive equipment maintenance using established procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range:

(Depending on education)

$25 an hour for non-degree and $40 for degree.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

Regularly required to stand; move throughout a room and/or facility. Communicate verbally and electronically. Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Occasionally required to sit, climb, and balance, and drive. May have occasion to perform heavy lifting up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and private automobile. Requires excellent interpersonal skills to deal with individuals.

Environmental Conditions:

Work is performed in a school or office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Face-to-face interactions with students. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.

  • Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.
  • Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.
  • Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
  • Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
  • Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment, including its capabilities, limitation,s and appropriate/ special application.
  • Protects the district's resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
  • Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to prevent muscle strain/injury.
