General Function:

The Human Resources (HR) Generalist provides comprehensive support to the HR department, ensuring smooth and efficient operations across a range of functional areas. This position plays a key role in supporting employee services, maintaining accurate HR records, assisting with licensure, Frontline absence management system, and employment verification, and delivering front-line customer service.

Education/Training/Experience:

Minimum: Associate degree or equivalent education and/or experience. Two years of progressively responsible technical support experience, or any combination of education and experience that provided the desired skills and knowledge required to perform the job. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and move forward in ambiguous situations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Exceptional computer software knowledge and skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Highly organized. Ability to meet deadlines. Working knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to human resources.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree. Public school human resources experience. Five years of administrative or technical support experience in human resources. Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of general human resources practices and support functions. Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) and HRIS systems. Ability to accurately input, maintain, and track data in HR systems. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain procedures clearly. Ability to interpret and apply HR policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately. Ability to prioritize work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Job Functions:

Performs all functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Provide administrative and technical support for a variety of HR processes and functions.

  2. Upload and manage employee leave records using Frontline Absence Management and School ERP Pro.

  3. Coordinate with supervisors and payroll to ensure accurate leave reporting related to, but not limited to, sick leave, FMLA, personal leave, bereavement leave, etc.

  4. Enter and update employee information into School ERP Pro and Frontline Absence Management for new hires, transfers, and other personnel actions.

  5. Support onboarding by ensuring accuracy, compliance, and completeness of required documentation.

  6. Explain and obtain pending documents from new employees; ensure confidentiality of employee data.

  7. Track licensure and certification renewals; notify employees of deadlines and assist with required documentation.

  8. Provide reception and front desk coverage for the building, including greeting visitors and answering general inquiries.

  9. Assist with indexing documents in ApplicationXtender.

  10. Prepare and respond to internal and external employment verification requests. Ensure all verifications comply with legal and confidentiality standards.

  11. Generate reports and compile data as needed for internal and external use.

  12. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, district policies, and HR procedures.

  13. Effectively communicate and interact with individuals from diverse cultural, educational, and professional backgrounds.

  14. Explain routine existing HR policies, procedures, and processes; refer difficult questions to the appropriate resource person.

  15. Assist with projects relating to training, staffing, employment, compensation, etc.

  16. Consistently complete tasks with attention to detail and accuracy while meeting established deadlines.

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Salary Range:

$38,847-$45,425+ Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available to full and part-time employees who work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Resources Used in Performing the Job Include (but are not limited to):

Computer software, including the applicant tracking system and Human Resource Information System (HRIS), to support recruiting and retention efforts. Must be competent with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word. Personal vehicle to travel to schools and other district buildings.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

Must have the ability to sit at a desk or computer for long periods during the day. Heavy telephone use. Requires excellent interpersonal skills to deal with calls both inside and outside of the District. Manual dexterity to operate computers and other office equipment. Requires light physical exertion, including some walking, bending, and reaching. The environment may be hectic with constant ringing of telephones and frequent interruptions. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Environmental Conditions:

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Uses video conferencing for meetings. Some occasional travel is required for meetings.
