General Function

The Restorative Justice Specialist supports the development and implementation of restorative practices that contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. The specialist works collaboratively with students, families, staff, and community partners to prevent and resolve conflict, reduce exclusionary discipline practices, and support social-emotional growth through restorative approaches. Responsibilities include facilitating restorative conversations, circles and conferences. The Restorative Justice Specialist is also responsible for providing coaching and training to staff, supporting student behavior interventions, and promoting accountability and healing.

Education/Training/Experience

Minimum requirements are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the District.

Minimum: Associate's degree in human services, social work, psychology, education, criminal justice, or a related field required. Experience working with youth, families, schools, or community-based organizations. Experience facilitating groups, mediating conflict, and building positive relationships with diverse populations.

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree. Experience providing training, coaching, or support to staff and stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Skills and knowledge of restorative practices and restorative justice including philosophy, principles, models, interventions, and techniques
  • Apply trauma-informed practices in daily work
  • Facilitating restorative conversations, circles, and/or conferences
  • Building trusting relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners
  • Managing conflict and supporting problem-solving in high-stress situations
  • Communicating effectively both orally and in writing
  • Working effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Supporting students with behavioral, attendance, or social-emotional challenges.
  • Coaching and training staff in restorative practices and proactive behavior supports
  • Maintaining accurate records, documentation, and reports.
  • Using sound judgment, professionalism, and confidentiality in sensitive situations
  • Organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks while working independently and collaboratively
  • Working independently, taking initiative, and following through on tasks
  • Managing time and tasks efficiently
  • Be open to feedback, taking direction, and receiving coaching
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between sites, if required
  • Bilingual/multilingual skills preferred

Essential Job Functions

All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the District.

  1. Facilitate restorative sessions with students who have experienced conflict.

  2. Respond to referrals in a timely manner and in accordance with program procedures.

  3. Coordinate with the referring individuals to establish when you will respond to the referral.

  4. Facilitate individual meetings to prepare for the restorative sessions.

  5. Conduct restorative conversations, circles and conferences with students and/or staff.

  6. Support students in developing concrete commitments.

  7. Follow up with students to reinforce accountability, monitor progress, and provide continued guidance as students integrate their learning back into the classroom community.

  8. Document completion of the restorative justice program process via the departmental referral system.

  9. Work collaboratively with restorative justice program staff.

  10. Work collaboratively with school site staff.

  11. Participate in weekly supervision meetings with the Director of Student Wellness.

  12. Participate in bi-weekly program team meetings.

  13. Regular travel between school sites and district locations to provide direct support, consultation, and training in alignment with district-wide initiatives and student service needs.

  14. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Salary Range

Based on education and experience

$50,000-$60,000+

Environmental Conditions

  • Sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
  • Regular travel between school sites and district locations.
