Job Title:Teacher Support Specialist

Job Summary:
The Teacher Support Specialist(TSS) is a teacher leader who works collaboratively with teachers to improve instructional practices and enhance student learning outcomes across the K-12 spectrum. The TSS provides job-embedded professional development, coaching, and support to teachers, focusing on evidence-based instructional strategies, data analysis, and the implementation of district initiatives, including the Board adopted goals and guardrails.
Essential Functions:
DISTRICT MENTOR COORDINATOR
- Plans and delivers a New Teacher Institute prior to the start of the school year
- One-on-one mentor with all new Elementary teachers in the district
- Supports site based mentor teachers with training, resources, and strategies.
- Provides support to Alternative Licensure Teachers (including PRAXIS), Level 1 teachers completing Microcredentials and teachers on support plans.
- Creates and maintains records of completed mentorship programs for the District, including a log of completed mentorships.
DISTRICT MLSS COORDINATOR
- Develop and communicate a district-wide system for MLSS that aligns with state standards and ensures consistency in instruction and interventions across all schools.
- Lead a rigorous vetting process to select High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) and evidence-based intervention programs that are culturally and linguistically responsive.
- Create and provide a systemic plan for job-embedded professional learning that builds educator expertise in MLSS, HQIM implementation, and data-driven decision-making.
- Establish expectations and provide the necessary tools for schools to analyze student performance data, ensuring that district and state resources are leveraged effectively to improve student outcomes.
- Develop and support implementation of clear protocols for teacher teams and PLCs to monitor student progress.
INSTRUCTIONAL COACHING
- Acts as the district LETRS and AIMS Course manager, completing all aspects of
- NMPED required training
- teacher enrollment, onboarding, support, and monitoring

- materials orders
- Supports the adoption and implementation of High Quality Instructional Materials, instructional programs, and initiatives.
- Support professional learning communities (PLCs) and other collaborative structures.
- Works collaboratively with school site Principals and Structured Literacy Coaches
- Works with school and district leaders to analyze student data and identify areas for improvement and critical actions.
- Acts as curriculum liaison to the District office for inventory and ordering.
- Maintains confidentiality and builds trusting relationships with teachers.
- Stays current on educational research, best practices, and trends.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education
- Valid New Mexico teaching license.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based instructional practices and strategies, including structured literacy
- Strong understanding of curriculum development, assessment, and data analysis.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge and practical application of Theory of adult learning.
- Experience in designing and delivering professional development.
- Strong understanding and implementation of NM Multi-Layered System of Supports.
- Experience within the Dufour model of Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction or other related field.
- National Board Certification.
- Experience as an instructional coach or mentor teacher.
- Experience working with historical underserved populations, including English Language Learners, Economically disadvantaged students, students with disabilities and native/indigenous students.
- Bilingual
- TESOL Endorsement

- Proficiency in analyzing student data to inform instructional decisions.
- Ability to model effective teaching strategies.
- Skill in providing constructive feedback to teachers and use of Coaching/Feedback Cycles.

- Proficiency in the use of technology for instruction and communication.
- Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively.
