ROLE AND PURPOSE
AVID tutors facilitate the AVID tutorials to ensure students are thinking critically and problem-solving using inquiry. AVID tutors serve as role models for AVID Electives students, offering appropriate opportunity knowledge about college and careers and encourage development of student agency.
QUALIFICATIONS

Certification
High School Diploma or equivalent
Currently enrolled in college/university preferred or degree earned
REQUIREMENTS
- 18 years of age minimum
- Ability to communicate effectively with middle and/or high school students
- Ability to motivate students
- Strong Math and Language Arts background
- Ability to work cooperatively with others
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to support students development of digital literacy skills
- Ability to support students ownership of learning and preparation for future online learning opportunities
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Successfully complete 16 hours of AVID Tutor Training provided by Arlington ISD
- Build a rapport with students and faculty
- Be positive and professional at all times
- Actively participate in collaborative groups and tutorials
- Assist students with organization
- Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students to follow
- Assist students by being familiar with textbooks and materials and AVID classroom resources
- Inform AVID Coordinator of any absences prior to the beginning of the school day
- Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular district staff is subject and to which good practices dictate
- Assist students through inquiry and facilitation
- Provide the students with opportunities to check their understanding of the solution process as well as the opportunity to process new knowledge
- AVID tutorials in the remote learning environments until further notice
- Establish communication with the AVID Elective Teacher to test equipment, establish norms, and receive their tutorials schedule for the day
- Coach students to summarize the academic learning and reflect on the tutorial process
- Engage fully in the AVID Tutorial Process through their online meeting platform Canvas Zoom Teams or other selected tools
- Build relationships with the students to establish clear expectations and norms for their tutorial group
- Communicate with the students if unable to see the notes clearly or hear the conversation fully and troubleshoot technology challenges
- Maintain an open channel of communication with the AVID Elective teacher in case student coaching is needed within the tutorial
