AmeriCorps Volunteers will steward direct services focused on natural resource improvement, land stewardship, and environmental education, and they will support capacity building focused on volunteer management and host site organizational advancement. Participating organizations who serve as AmeriCorps Volunteer host sites include Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District, Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed, Grange Insurance Audubon Center, Green Columbus, Licking County Soil and Water Conservation District, Licking Park District, Methodist Theological School in Ohio, Preservation Parks of Delaware County, and Stratford Ecological Center. Member Duties : Specific natural resource improvement activities can include managing invasive plant species, establishing native vegetative cover, restoring damaged or degraded habitats and ecosystems, adding or improving public educational and recreational greenspaces, litter and dumpsite cleanups, and urban reforestation (through the growth, distribution, and planting of nursery trees). Land stewardship activities can include natural resource monitoring and responsible management of working landscapes. Environmental education activities can include facilitating in- and after-school student programs, adult trainings and workshops, community events, and children's camps. Capacity building activities can include volunteer recruitment and management, community relationship building, and developing new public outreach and environmental education initiatives.
