ROLE AND PURPOSE Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject areas assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in a global society.
QUALIFICATIONS Education Certification Bachelors Degree Valid Texas teaching certificate for subject level assigned Minimum Experience At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Instructional Strategies • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles. • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations. • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. • Access and use available data to plan and implement appropriate instructional, learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned (i.e., gifted and talented, bilingual, ESL, 504, etc.).
• Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. • Implement the FLES instructional framework established by the districts curriculum department. • Maintain records regarding language acquisition and linguistics accommodations. • Participate in extended day and/or extended year program activities as assigned. • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers. • Use technology to strengthen and enhance the teaching-learning process.
Student Growth and Development • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formative and summative assessments. • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. • Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. • Be a positive role model for students, support the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct, student handbook, board policies, administrative regulations, and/or IEP. • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and other resources. • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Communication • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and other stakeholders. • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, supervisors, students, parents, and community members. • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development • Demonstrate current knowledge, understanding, and skill in the assigned content area, instructional strategies, and the teaching and learning process. • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. • Expected to attend 5 days of professional development classes beyond traditional district requirements geared toward dual language education. • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional development.
Miscellaneous • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, responsible, and in compliance with the Professional Code of Ethics.
