Primary Functions and Job Details
The City of Lancaster is pleased to offer the 2026 Summer Program for summer work experience to eligible high school and college students. Students who are City residents are encouraged to apply for the positions listed below.
Summer jobs are located throughout the City limits, concentrated in the Public Works department. Most of it is outdoors.

The Shining Star of Texas!
The City of Lancaster is one of the oldest communities in North Texas. The founder of Lancaster was"Honest A" Bledsoe born in Lancaster, Garrard County, Kentucky in 1801. In 1846, he came to Texas and secured a 640-acre tract of land, one mile west of town square today. Six years later, Bledsoe surveyed and staked off the land for the town of Lancaster in 1852. Incorporated in May 1866, Lancaster was one of the first incorporated communities in Dallas County.
The City of Lancaster has a Council-Manager form of government. The City Manager serves as the Chief Executive Officer and the City Council makes policy. The City Manager is designated by the Charter as the Chief Administrative Officer with appointing authority for positions of employment with the City and is responsible for matters and policies relations to the general welfare of all employees.
