Job Goal Looking for an opportunity to support middle school youth in a hands-on differentiated project-based robotics program.

Our Middle Grades Robotics Summer Program is an innovative collaboration with the Somerville High School Robotics Team supported by the Somerville Public Schools. We are looking for teachers to inspire students to learn about engineering and robotics by teaching one class of 15-20 middle grades students.

Duties include:

  • Taking attendance
  • Communicating with families
  • Redirecting behaviors in a positive and supportive way
  • Assisting with additional tasks as needed

This position works in close collaboration with:

  • Summer Robotics Program Coordinator
  • Somerville High School Fab Lab Manager
  • SPELL Administration
  • Summer Middle Grades Robotics High School Youth Mentors

Responsibilities

  • Teach a group of 15-20 students in grades 5-9 about LEGO robotics engineering.
  • Work collaboratively with SHS Robotics Youth Mentors.
  • Willingness to learn and jump in enthusiastically.
  • Be able to quickly build strong relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Excited to serve as a role model for youth.

Availability

  • Must be available Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 10, and Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24, 2026.
  • Availability Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17 is preferable but not required.

Terms of Employment

  • Seasonal
  • Yearly Employment
  • Salary: $35 per hour

Sessions

  • Session 1: Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 10 from 8:15am - 12:45pm
  • Session 2: Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17 (Summer SPELL push-in) from 8:15am - 12:45pm
  • Session 3: Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24 from 8:15am - 12:45pm
