    2027-2028 SY Certified: School Counselor (2 Openings) JobID: 4693 Position Type: School-Based Support Staff/School CounselorDate Posted: 9/22/2026Location: Goodyear High School Additional Information: Show/HideJOB DESCRIPTION SCHOOL COUNSELORTITLE: School Counselor FTE: 1.0FLSA STATUS: Exempt WORK CALENDAR: 197 daysCOMPENSATION: Certified School-Based Support Staff Compensation Guide (Starting $55,430) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvide a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and communityAdhere to the ASCA School Counseling Model including completion of the annual ASCA agreementUse data to develop school counseling program goals and proactively articulate goals to all stakeholdersCollect and analyze data to measure the effectiveness of school counseling program goalsConduct annual individual counselor, site-based department and district-based counseling program self-assessments to determine strengths and areas for growth and plan professional development and future goals accordinglyUse data to develop counseling curriculum, small-group and closing-the-gap action plans for effective delivery of the school counseling programUse data to identify student needs and develop comprehensive counseling programs that are alignedUse 80 percent or more of time to provide direct and indirect services to students through the school counseling core curriculum, individual student planning and responsive servicesUse 20 percent or less of time in program management, system support and accountabilityUse and analyze data on program delivery to determine alignment to the ASCA model and student needsMonitor student academic performance, attendance and behavioral data to inform school counseling program goalsMonitor student academic performance, attendance and behavioral data and work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, TOSA/SOSA, and social workers to create student support plans and interventions, to identify and facilitate access to student resources, to provide support for the student and then follow up to ensure improvement and successOrganizes time, resources, energy and workload in order to meet responsibilitiesMaintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issuesPerforms responsibilities in an ethical and professional mannerPerforms other duties as assigned Direct Services:Provide direct student services (school counseling core curriculum, individual student planning and responsive services as defined in the ASCA model and aligned to the school counseling program goals)Deliver school counseling core curriculum including classroom lessons and large group lessons and presentationsProvide appraisal and advisement to assist all students with academic, career and personal/social planningProvide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs Indirect Services:Refer, consult and collaborate on behalf of identified studentsRefer students and parents to appropriate school and community resources to support student achievement and successConsult with parents and other educators to share strategies that support student achievement and successCollaborate with parents, other educators and community resources to support student achievement and successKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREDTo perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Certified in School Counseling (formerly guidance counselor certificate).3. Current and valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card ExperienceExperience as a school counselor is preferredKnowledge of the ASCA school counseling model is preferredExperience conducting both small- and large-group lessons is beneficialKnowledge of SEL, Suicide Awareness and Prevention, College and Career Readiness is beneficial Communication Skills1.Strong writing, literacy, and communication skills; uses effective communication strategies to interact with a variety of audiences 2. Bilingual communication is beneficial Computer Skills1. Knowledge of Google Suite2. Knowledge of Microsoft Office3. Knowledge of Student Information Systems4.
