POSITION TITLE: 2027 Data and AI Solutions Summer Intern

DEPARTMENT: Investment Management - Fixed Income Control Management and Performance Attributions

Youll gain valuable insight into the asset management industry, build your network, and take part in engaging events throughout the summer designed to foster collaboration, connect you with the firm and your fellow interns.

Purpose of the Internship:

This internship sits inside the Fixed Income Data and AI transformation initiative. The intern will help build production-grade data assets, analytics, and AI/ML tools that directly support FI trading, research, and Portfolio Management. Work alongside the Director of FI Data and AI Solutions, citizen developers, quants, and data scientists to advance real deliverables tied to CIO defined initiatives, while applying your quantitative and analytical skills to solve real investment problems. Develop the tools that move Fixed Income forward, and build your foundation in Investment Management. Youll join a team shipping production models, driving process efficiency, and putting the latest data and AI tools to work.

Major Duties:

Data Engineering & Platform:

• Onboard data from internal systems, vendor APIs, and other sources onto Databricks/Azure
• Develop data analysis competency in Databricks (Spark, SQL, Python)
• Data wrangling, validation, and quality checks

Applied AI/ML & Quant Research:

• Build upon ML models augmenting the investment process
• Enhance backtesting frameworks, following rigorous standards on bias avoidance, lookahead, and out-of-sample validity
• Leverage LLMs/AI tools (Claude, GPT, Copilot) to accelerate development in an enterprise setting

Application & Tool Development:

• Fast prototype apps and dashboards on enterprise data (python, SQL, Bloomberg BQL)
• Add interactive features to dashboards/heatmaps/models

Collaboration & Delivery:

• Communicate with Investment Management, Data Scientists, and Technology to scope needs
• Document code/process for continuity
• Present findings to investment and technology stakeholders
• Follow coding standards under senior data scientist/developer supervision

Hours/Location:

• Full-time summer schedule working 37.5 hours/week from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
• Federated Hermes Tower - Pittsburgh, PA 15222
• Hybrid work arrangement (4 days in-office / 1 day remote)

Explanatory Comments:

Major projects may include the following:

• Contributing to and improving systematic models centered around interest rate movements and credit metrics
• Building data pipelines, custom reports, and dashboards for the investment teams
• Improving security selection and relative value tools
• Discover pain points and develop innovative solutions using data

Position Specifications:

• Pursuing an undergraduate degree in quantitative finance, engineering, data science, CS, mathematics, science, economics, or other quantitative field
• Programming experience required: Python preferred, others considered based on level of competency
• Leverage LLMs: Claude/Code, GPT/Codex, Copilot, etc
• Exposure to any of the following is beneficial: machine learning, statistics, time series analysis, backtesting methods
• Relational database/SQL experience is advantageous
• Comfortable learning new systems quickly: Bloomberg/BQuant, Databricks, git
• Strong curiosity in Fixed Income investing and financial markets, no prior experience required
• Comfortable working independently, proposing solutions, and iterating under light supervision
