2027 Summer Internship - Marketing & Publicity, Nelson Books (Nashville, TN Hybrid)

Overview:

We are seeking a curious, creative, and highly organized Marketing & Publicity Intern who is excited to learn how books are positioned, launched, and connected with readers. This internship offers hands-on experience across the full life lifecycle of a book campaign; from audience and competitive research to developing marketing materials, supporting media outreach, coordinating launch materials, tracking campaign progress, and participating in author and team meetings.

 

The ideal candidate is passionate about books, storytelling, brings strong writing and communication skills, has excellent attention to details, and enjoys digging into research. We’re looking for someone who is eager to learn, comfortable juggling multiple projects, and excited to contribute fresh ideas while gaining firsthand experience alongside a collaborative publishing team.

Responsibilities:

1. Marketing Support

• Support the development of book campaigns by drafting and proofreading marketing plans, acquisition and sales materials, book positioning, promotional copy, email campaigns, and other audience-facing marketing materials.
• Assist with campaign planning and strategy through competitive-title, audience, platform, and trend research, including developing social media strategies and content ideas, while helping track key assets, deadlines, opportunities, and launch milestones across multiple titles.

 

2. Public Relations Support

• Research and identify relevant mainstream and faith media opportunities for authors, build targeted media lists and assist in developing press materials including press kits, press releases, author bios, talking points, and pitches.
• Support media outreach and author interviews by helping personalize pitches and follow-ups, coordinate interview schedules and logistics, and prepare briefing materials that position authors for successful media opportunities.

3. Mailing Coordination

• Assist with Goodreads and Little Free Library giveaways media mailing, and other promotional efforts; including setting up giveaways, creating mailing materials, and shipping Advance Reader Copies and finished books.

Qualifications:

• Candidates who are available to work in a full-time capacity in 2027 or 2028 are eligible for this internship; open to rising seniors, recent graduates, master’s students, or entry level candidates with up to 1 year of work experience. 
• Candidates must be available to work 28 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, from June 7 to August 12, 2027. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are mandatory in-office days at our Nashville headquarters, while Mondays and Thursdays are remote workdays. Compensation for this internship is $18 per hour. 
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.

• Ideal candidates are either currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or master’s program.
• trong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail.
• Proficiency in design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Photoshop) is a plus.
• Familiarity with PR tools and platforms (e.g., Muck Rack, Podchaser) is a bonus.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• A passion for books, storytelling, and the publishing industry is a plus!
