    Summary

    As a Water Resource Management Intern, you will gain hands-on, project-based experience with the policies, programs, and planning efforts that help APS secure and manage sustainable water resources for power generation. Working alongside Water Resources professionals who collaborate with regulatory agencies, industry partners, and internal stakeholders, you will contribute to initiatives that promote responsible resource management, environmental stewardship, and compliance with Arizona water regulations. Your work will help support reliable energy service while protecting one of Arizonas most valuable natural resources.

    Potential Projects and Experiences

    • Conduct research and analyze information related to water policy, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
    • Support water planning and conservation initiatives through data collection, organization, and reporting.
    • Collaborate with APS teams, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders on projects related to water resource management and environmental compliance.
    • Assist with documentation, regulatory reporting, and other activities that support compliance with Arizona water laws and regulations.
    • Attend meetings with government agencies, industry organizations, and water planning groups to gain insight into emerging policy and resource management issues.
    • Participate in site visits to learn how water management strategies and regulatory requirements support power generation operations.

    Who We're Looking For

    • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program with a record of academic achievement.
    • Pursuing studies in Public Policy, Political Science, Environmental Policy, Legal Studies, Public Administration, Sustainability, Environmental Science, or a related field.
    • Strong research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills with an interest in public policy and natural resource management.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and stakeholders.
    • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage information and support multiple projects.
    • Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.

    This paid, temporary full-time internship spans 10 weeks during the summer. Interns receive mentorship, professional development, opportunities for site visits, networking, and more.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Enrolled in an accredited college or university undergraduate or graduate degree program.
    • Must show ongoing achievement in areas of study and training.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 3.0 GPA or higher.

    Major Accountabilities

    1) Performs simple to intermediate analysis and designs. May assist in preparing business/engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations and studies.

    2) Assists in research, business documentation, studies or technical reviews. Conducts analyses, investigations, verifications and summarizes results or findings in written reports or oral presentations.

    3) Utilizes internal resources to learn business/engineering operations/functions and apply learning in completion of work assignments.

    4) Coordinates efforts with other disciplines, and/or departments in achieving project goals and task assignments.

    5) Performs other related duties as required.

    Hybrid: Employees in hybrid roles work both in their home offices (virtually) and alongside their colleagues (in person).

    In order for employees to build strong relationships and to promote meaningful in-person interactions, hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in-person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.

    • Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).
    • Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.
