#254-CRT-07-26:
Middle School Math Interventionist
Orchard Middle School
1.0 FTE, Continuing Contract
Position Summary
We are seeking a passionate, student-centered Math Interventionist to join our middle school team. In this role, you won't just teach formulas; you will help students dismantle math anxiety, close foundational gaps, and build the confidence they need to succeed. You will lead targeted math interventions (Tier 2 and Tier 3) using a mix of hands-on tools and real-world, practical applications that show students why math matters in their everyday lives. Additionally, you will serve as an instructional leader by overseeing, planning for, and guiding paraprofessionals to maximize the impact of our math support team. With our large Spanish speaking population, bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) are highly preferred to help us deeply connect with all of our families.
Key Responsibilities
Targeted Instruction: Deliver research-based math interventions to small groups of middle school students, focusing on conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem-solving.
Real-World Application: Design and implement tasks that connect abstract middle school concepts (like ratios, percentages, and data analysis) to real-world scenarios-such as budgeting, sports stats, cooking, or basic coding-to increase student engagement and buy-in.
Paraprofessional Leadership: Plan daily/weekly intervention activities for paraprofessionals, providing them with clear lesson structures, data-tracking tools, and the instructional guidance they need to successfully run their own small groups.
Data-Driven Planning: Analyze diagnostic, progress-monitoring data, and state assessments to identify specific gaps, track student growth, and adjust both your instruction and the paras' weekly plans accordingly.
Defining Exit Criteria: Collaborate with the MTSS/RTI team to define, refine, and implement clear, objective exit criteria. Determine when a student has successfully closed their foundational gaps and is ready to transition out of the intervention tier.
Collaboration: Partner closely with core math teachers, special education staff, and administration to align intervention strategies with classroom curriculum.
Family Connection: Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, providing them with accessible, real-world tools to support learning at home.
Key Competencies for Middle School Success
Leadership & Organization: The ability to manage your own teaching schedule while simultaneously organizing lesson plans, schedules, and resources for your team of paras.
Patience & Relation-Building: Middle school math is often where students decide they "aren't math people." You need the ability to build strong, trusting relationships that lower their anxiety.
Behavior Management: A strong toolkit for keeping easily distracted middle schoolers engaged, focused, and moving forward in a positive, supportive small-group environment.
QUALIFICATIONS: Meet Washington state certification and endorsement requirements. Experience teaching math to middle school students is preferred. Experience in and/or willingness to participate/support student activities/athletics/clubs desired. Exemplary organizational and planning skills. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff. Ability to work as a team player and understand the needs of middle school aged students. Attendance and punctuality are required functions of this position. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
SCHEDULE: OPEN UNTIL FILLED.
UNION AFFILIATION: This position is represented by the Wenatchee Education Association.
