The district is looking for a highly qualified AG Teacher. Multiple Certifications, is a plus but not required. Athletic coaching license or interest in middle school/high school coaching is a plus but not required.
Initial License
Initial application via NMPED Online Licensure Portal; and
Official sealed transcripts reflecting completion of a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university; and
24 semester hours of Secondary education course work, 12 semester hours of which must be in upper division courses, to include student teaching; and
24 semester hours in teaching fields such as language arts, social studies, math, etc; and
3 semester hours in teaching reading for those who first entered any college or university on or after August 1, 2001; and
Passage of the following PRAXIS exams:
Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades 7-12 5624
One of the Content Assessments for the First Endorsement on the License plus coursework
If you graduated and completed the portfolio for assessment from an NM ed prep program in 2024 or thereafter, you would not be required to pass any exams.
OR…
Possess a valid certificate issued by the national board for professional teaching standards for the appropriate grade level and type.
Register for background/fingerprints for "Teacher Licensure".
Beginning Teacher Pathway
Definition: Beginning Teacher - a teacher who has not completed a teacher program (they hold an alternative license).
Beginning teachers adding the endorsement to an initial license must satisfy the requirements for the license which include:
Teacher with Existing License Pathway
Definition: Existing Teacher - a teacher who has completed a teacher program (standard or alternative).
Teachers seeking to add the endorsement to an existing NM teaching license of any level can either:
24-36 semester hours in Agriculture Coursework and passage of the Praxis exam Agriculture 5701 (effective 9/1/23):
Middle Level - This license requires a minimum of 24 semester hours of coursework, of which 6 must be earned at the upper division (generally numbered 300 or above); or
Secondary, Pre K-12 Specialty, Special Education - This license requires a minimum of 24 semester hours of coursework, of which 12 must be earned at the upper division (generally numbered 300 or above); or
Submit copies of passing scores of an Agriculture Content Knowledge Exam (Prior out-of-state national exam).
Accepted Agriculture Coursework
The licensure bureau will review coursework that includes any agriculture-related courses. (Course description or syllabi may be requested).
