The Chappaqua Central School District is a community of six schools serving approximately 3500 students in Westchester County. Chappaqua CSD is looking for a thoughtful and knowledgeable educator to serve in the anticipated probationary position of English Teacher at the middle school level beginning September 2, 2026.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong, broad knowledge of fiction and non-fiction literature, both classic and contemporary, with a particular focus on American texts.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth; actively seeks professional learning opportunities.
- Willing and able to work in a collaborative teaching environment, including co-teaching and interdisciplinary planning.
- Fosters a welcoming classroom environment that nurtures emotional well-being and a sense of belonging.
- Uses NYS standards educational research to inform instructional practices.
- Uses formative assessments to gauge student understanding.
- Has experience with evidence-based social-emotional learning strategies to promote emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of the RULER approach is preferred.
- Uses knowledge of students and student performance when planning lessons.
- Infuses culturally relevant practices to ensure that lessons reflect the diverse backgrounds and experiences of all students.
- Integrates diverse perspectives and voices into instructional materials and resources to broaden students' understanding of the world.
- Maintains high expectations for all students.
- Engages in regular, collaborative professional development with the understanding that team efficacy is greater than individual efforts alone.
Certification/License:
- New York State Certification as an English Education Teacher Grades 7 - 12 or English 5-9.
