Reports To: Director of School Counseling

Supervises: Students

Job Goal: To provide a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes academic, career, and social/emotional development for all students, aligning with ASCA National Model standards to support student success and prepare them for post-secondary opportunities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Program Planning and Management:

o Design and implement a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students.

o Use data to assess student needs, set measurable goals, and evaluate program effectiveness.

  • Direct Services to Students:

o Provide individual and small group counseling to address personal, social, and academic concerns.

o Deliver classroom lessons that promote college and career readiness, social skills, and mental health awareness.

o Assist students in creating and updating individual academic and career plans.

  • Collaboration and Consultation:

o Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and community members to support student development and well-being.

o Participate in IEP, 504, and other student support meetings to provide input on accommodations and interventions.

  • Crisis Response and Prevention:

o Provide immediate support for students in crisis, including risk assessments and referrals to external resources when necessary.

  • Equity and Advocacy:

o Promote equity by identifying and addressing barriers to student success, particularly for underserved or marginalized populations.

o Advocate for policies and practices that create a supportive and inclusive school environment.

  • Career and Postsecondary Readiness:

o Guide students in exploring career interests and post-secondary options, including college, vocational training, and employment.

o Coordinate activities like college visits, career days, and career speakers.

  • Data-Driven Decision Making:

o Analyze student achievement, attendance, and behavioral data to inform Tier I and II services

o Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with district policies and legal guidelines.

  • Professional Growth and Development:

o Stay informed about best practices in school counseling by participating in professional development and adhering to ASCA ethical standards.

o Contribute to the school's mission and goals by participating in district-wide initiatives and committees as assigned.

  1. General Administrative and Supervisory Responsibilities

o Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board Policy.

o Performs other duties that may be within the scope of his/her employment and certifications as may be assigned by his/her supervisor or other member of the administrative staff under the authority of the Board of Education.

o Perform all other responsibilities and duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and/or his/her designees.
