Exempt employees are paid on a salary basis and are not eligible for overtime compensation. They are expected to fulfill the full scope of their job responsibilities regardless of the number of hours worked.
WVU Parkersburg employees in exempt managerial positions are expected to work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week to fulfill the basic requirements of their role. In practice, the responsibilities and leadership duties associated with these positions typically require more than 37.5 hours per week. Because these positions are exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), work expectations are not defined by a maximum number of hours, but rather by the scope of authority, level of responsibility, and operational needs associated with the position.
Exempt employees are entrusted to exercise professional judgment in managing their time to ensure institutional goals are achieved and leadership expectations are met.

Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance and punctuality are expected to ensure performance of the essential function of the job, including scheduled meetings and shifts. Function/Summary The Director of Teacher Education provides leadership and guidance to the Education Program. Assists dean with administrative duties.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Required: Master's degree in education from a recognized, regionally accredited college or university Preferred: Doctorate in education or related field
Experience:
Required: Minimum of three years of documented, contemporary professional experience in and elementary classroom setting (preK-8)
Licensure:
Required: Certification in Elementary Education K-6 and eligibility for WV Licensure
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to organize, reprioritize and practice management skills when multi-tasking. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work well with diverse students, faculty, employees, and clients/businesses. Higher education teaching experience, knowledge of CAEP Accreditation Practices, working experiences with Professional Development Schools
Demonstrated use of advanced technology systems such as learning management systems or similar technologies.
Understanding and application of assessment practices is strongly preferred. Process management, quality improvement expertise and problem-solving. Self-starter, dependable, conscientious, sociable, and attentive to detail. Intermediate computer skills with common PC brands, software programs and electronic databases. Independent analytical and evaluation judgment, project management and conflict management skills. Ability to travel for state meeting, national conferences, and recruiting events.
Duties/Responsibilities Administration (50%)
Supervise education faculty, adjuncts, and student workers Provide input to the dean for education faculty annual evaluations Provide training and mentorship for new faculty and adjuncts Update Dean of Professional Studies on department status Collaborate with Program Specialist on data collection, student records, and certification issues Coordinate monthly accreditation data meetings with the Education Assessment Coordinator (remove) Ensures department compliance with accreditation standards Attend and/or facilitates all stakeholder group meetings Attend State meetings and conferences both virtually and face to face Participate in meetings held by WVDE and HEPC Stay current on State and accreditation policy Disseminate information from WVDE, HEPC, and CAEP to faculty, staff, and the Dean. Keep all faculty, staff and adjuncts up-to-date and informed of important events and deadlines (ex. Mid-term grades, professional development opportunities, etc.…) Meet regularly with Division Dean Collect and review all faculty and adjunct syllabi each semester Approve faculty schedules with input from the dean Work with stakeholder groups to identify strengths and areas of challenge in the program Work with stakeholder groups and faculty to revise or create programs as needed to support the community Ensure that new programs or program revision go through the appropriate approval processes internally and with the State Coordinate updates on the teacher education handbook Provide leadership and guidance for all department and State initiatives and projects (ex. Grow Your Own, Future Teachers Program, ECCAT) Actively participate in all assigned committees Maintain and update education pages on the website annually Develop relationship with other EPP's, Community Colleges and High Schools Develop working relationships with Superintendents and Curriculum Directors Meets all sensitive deadlines including WVCAPA, CAEP, annual program reviews and HLC Complete and participate in CAEP Site Visitor training Participate in WVDE WVTPA training Serve on/participate in state committees, advisory councils, Educators Rising, and LSIC meeting as opportunity arises Maintain an on-campus presence
Recruitment (25%)
Recruit and train adjunct faculty Coordinate recruitment opportunities in the WVU Parkersburg service area Assign faculty liaisons to partnership schools Act as a liaison with High Schools, Middle Schools, and Technical Centers in the Mid-Ohio Valley Actively participate in recruitment events hosted by WVU Parkersburg and/or partnership schools
15% Recruitment (15%)
Recruit and train adjunct faculty Coordinate recruitment opportunities in the WVU Parkersburg service area Assign faculty liaisons to partnership schools Act as a liaison with High Schools and Middle Schools in the Mid-Ohio Valley Actively participate in recruitment events hosted by WVU Parkersburg and/or partnership schools
Scheduling (10%)
Schedule and facilitate weekly department meetings Schedule a minimum of four annual division assessment meetings Create department master calendar each semester Work a year ahead with faculty to create course schedule for each semester Work closely with department staff to update and maintain information in Banner Schedule, organize, notify, and facilitate stakeholder group meetings a minimum of once per semester (ACT, AAC, PAC, TEAC, etc.)
Teaching (10%)
Teach 3-7 credit hours each semester Maintain an advising load Maintain 5 or more posted office hours each semester
