Position Summary

The shift available is Monday through Friday: 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide manual labor to assist the campus Moving Services department and other Facilities units as directed
  • Assist moving services team including moving furniture and materials, loading and unloading trucks, driving vehicles to and from maintenance sites, maintaining and cleaning equipment, and shredding confidential papers
  • Assist moving services team to deliver, set up, and pick up staging, tables, and chairs for campus events; move furniture and materials; and load and unload moving truck
  • Handle and shred sensitive papers collected from WCU offices
  • Follow safety precautions and report unsafe acts
  • Participate in training and apply knowledge and skills gained by one-on-one training or group training to accomplish assigned duties
  • Assess the work, give feedback, and bring deficiencies to the attention of the supervisor
  • Communicate emergencies to the supervisor or Public Safety
  • Build a positive working relationship with the campus community
  • Listen to the customer and bring customer concerns to the attention of the supervisor
  • Operate, clean, and maintain equipment
  • Inform supervisor of equipment needing repair or service
  • Support managers/supervisors implementation of new departmental policies and procedures
  • Observe security procedures to safeguard personnel and property
  • Know and enforce University and Departmental policies and procedures
  • Operate University vehicles safely, and in accordance with established policies
  • Maintain physical exertion throughout the workday, including bending, pushing, walking, stooping, reaching overhead, and lifting to 100 pounds
  • Perform other related duties as required

As a member of the Facilities Divisional staff, this position is deemed essential. Essential employees must remain or report to work during partial or full day closings of the University due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons. Evening or weekend shifts may be required for campus events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school

OR

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of storeroom methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of the kinds, grades, and uses of the supplies dealt with
  • Knowledge of transportation agencies and shipment methods
  • Ability to follow oral or written instructions
  • Ability to pack goods properly for shipment
  • Ability to keep simple inventory and stores records
  • Sufficient physical strength to permit the lifting and moving of heavy objects

Special Instructions

Salary and benefits are dictated by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) collective bargaining agreement.
