Position Summary: We are seeking a dedicated, nurturing, and dynamic educator for a 2nd Grade General Education classroom. The ideal candidate will foster a foundational love of learning, manage a positive and student centered classroom environment, and guide young learners through core elementary curriculum including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in Elementary Education or designated area.
Licensure: Has or qualifies for appropriate Wisconsin licensure
Communication Skills: * Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Pleasant interpersonal skills to work effectively with a variety of young people, families, and adults.
Ability to communicate positively with students, staff, and the public, and respond promptly to questions in a pleasant manner.
Operational & Professional Skills:
Ability to handle stressful situations and multiple tasks, organize and maintain numerous details, and work independently.
Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
Ability to work when required, with flexible hours as needed to ensure proper coverage of personnel.
Ability to motivate, guide, and work well with others.
General knowledge of standard office equipment, as well as the cleaning and maintenance of classroom equipment/products. Properly care for classroom equipment, tools, and learning materials.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in all phases of the position.
Ability to process, apply, and respond appropriately to feedback.
Willingness to receive additional training to enhance job performance or meet changing job requirements.

Classroom Management
Create a nurturing classroom environment that is highly conducive to early childhood learning and tailored to the interests of 2nd-grade students. Classrooms are expected to be orderly, friendly, exhibit a climate of mutual respect, and motivate students to learn. Trauma-informed practices must be present.
Develop strong, positive relationships with each child that demonstrate a belief that all students want to learn, enabling you to provide insight into the unmet needs of the student.
Develop supportive accountability measures for students that demonstrate the capacity to support student growth rather than punish students.
Encourage students to set, understand, and maintain high standards of classroom behavior and citizenship.
Encourage effort toward achievement and efficiently utilize the time available for instruction.
Create a classroom climate which encourages each student to strive for excellence.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, facilities, and personal belongings.
Instruction, Planning, and Assessment
Curriculum Implementation: Plan a program of studies that meets the individual needs, learning styles, foundational interests, and abilities of 2nd-grade students, aligning with and utilizing all district-provided programming with fidelity.
Lesson Preparation: Prepare for daily classes and complete comprehensive lesson plans as required. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear, age-appropriate objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
Instructional Variety: Employ a variety of instructional techniques (e.g., hands-on learning, small group instruction, differentiated reading/math groups) consistent with the developmental needs and capabilities of young learners.
Student Development: Participate in the development of early communication skills, foundational study habits, basic decision-making skills, and an early understanding of the requirements of good citizenship (within both the school and the broader community).
Differentiation: Determine the learning needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the help of other district staff (reading specialists, math coaches, special education staff) as appropriate.
Balanced Perspectives: Provide a sampling of different opinions when discussing topics about which there are varying views, presented at a developmentally appropriate level.
Mission Alignment: Strive to implement the district's mission statement and goals through daily instruction and action utilizing programming provided by the district.
Assessment & Communication: * Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, provide progress reports as required, and inform families of the criteria used for evaluation.
Provide positive feedback regularly to parents that demonstrates your deep knowledge of their student's unique abilities and areas of growth.
Respond to parent concerns and/or questions regarding their child's academic and social-emotional development in a timely, professional manner.
