The Maintenance Technician plays an important role in maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming campus environment. This position performs a wide variety of work including responding to work orders, completing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing building systems, maintaining mechanical equipment, replacing lighting, and supporting campus utilities. The role also responds to after-hours maintenance needs and emergency situations, such as plumbing backups, and provides support to the custodial team as needed. No two days are the same, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving problems, working with their hands, and taking pride in keeping a dynamic arts campus operating at its best. This position works a second-shift schedule, typically Tuesday through Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Essential Duties:
- Remove trash, recycling & debris around campus
- Work order-driven; team & individual assignments
- Answer maintenance calls, troubleshoot issues, contact other on-call trades for urgent issues.
- Ability to lift, climb ladders and work from heights.
- Setup & teardown tables, chairs, event equipment as directed.
- Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Safely operate all vehicles and other job-related equipment.
- Snow Removal during Shift
- Small minor plumbing repairs, plunging toilets, tank handles, broken chains, clogged sinks.
- Remove/Install window screens, prepping seasonal buildings for opening or closing.
- Preventative maintenance work orders on Utility systems
- Performs other duties as assigned, which can include special projects, minor building maintenance, mail delivery/pickup and assistance with Integrated Pest Management
- Seeks the best use of materials, equipment and staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
- Complies with ICA policies/procedures and acts as a good steward of ICA finances.

Required Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of one year of experience in building maintenance, mechanical equipment maintenance and repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Skilled trade experience preferred.
- Proficiency using hand and power tools.
- Working knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Knowledge of common workplace hazards and safe work practices.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated commitment to working respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, spiritual, linguistic, and personal backgrounds.
- Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets Interlochen Center for the Arts' insurance requirements (for positions requiring driving).
