This role oversees all sanitation activities on 2nd shift in a high-volume bakery production facility. The supervisor leads a sanitation team and a sanitation lead, manages the sanitation program for the main production facility, develops and maintains master sanitation schedules, and drives continuous process improvement using root cause analysis. The position ensures that all cleaning and sanitizing procedures support food safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient production across multiple lines.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a 2nd shift sanitation staff and a sanitation lead, providing clear direction, support, and performance feedback.
• Oversee the sanitation program for the main production facility, ensuring all production lines and areas meet food safety and cleanliness standards.
• Develop, write, and maintain master sanitation schedules for equipment, production lines, and facility areas.
• Plan and coordinate daily and weekly sanitation activities to support production schedules and order demands.
• Use process improvement methodologies and root cause analysis to identify, investigate, and resolve sanitation-related issues.
• Ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing of large mixers, ovens, and other bakery equipment, including disassembly and reassembly as required.
• Verify that sanitation procedures comply with HACCP, FDA, and other applicable food safety and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor and enforce adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to sanitation and food safety.
• Oversee the safe and effective use of cleaning chemicals and sanitizing agents in the food production environment.
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to support food safety, product quality, and efficient changeovers between product runs.
• Support or participate in HACCP, SQF, and other food safety program activities as needed.
• Assist in training sanitation staff on proper cleaning techniques, chemical handling, and food safety practices.
• Contribute to OSHA compliance efforts related to sanitation activities and equipment cleaning.
• Document sanitation activities, schedules, and corrective actions to support audits and internal reviews.
• Identify opportunities to improve sanitation processes, reduce downtime, and enhance overall efficiency of the sanitation program.

Essential Skills

• 5+ years of experience as a sanitation manager or in a similar sanitation leadership role in food manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience supervising sanitation staff on a production shift.
• Proven experience writing and managing master sanitation schedules.
• Strong knowledge of food safety principles and programs, including HACCP.
• Experience working in a food manufacturing or food production environment, preferably in the bakery industry.
• Demonstrated experience with process improvement and root cause analysis.
• Familiarity with FDA regulations related to food production and sanitation.
• Ability to oversee and perform cleaning and sanitizing of production equipment, including disassembly and hand washing of machinery.
• Knowledge of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for sanitation and food safety.
• Experience working with cleaning and sanitizing chemicals in a food production setting.
• Ability to manage sanitation in a facility with multiple production lines producing different products.
• Strong organizational skills to plan and execute sanitation schedules in alignment with production demands.
• Effective communication and leadership skills to direct and coach a sanitation team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Sanitation supervisor experience in a bakery setting is a plus.
• HACCP certification is a plus.
• SQF certification is a plus.
• PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification is a plus.
• Experience with OSHA regulations in a food manufacturing environment is a plus.
• Experience working with large mixers, ovens, and other bakery-specific equipment is beneficial.
• Background in implementing process improvements within a sanitation program is advantageous.

Work Environment

The role is based in a main bakery production facility operating multiple production lines that manufacture different products depending on daily order demands. The environment includes large mixers, ovens, and various pieces of machinery that often need to be taken apart and hand washed, creating complex and hands-on sanitation challenges. This is a 2nd shift position, requiring work during non-daytime hours to support production and sanitation needs. The facility promotes a small, family-oriented atmosphere and is part of a growing operation with plans to expand. The work involves regular use of cleaning and sanitizing chemicals, adherence to food safety and regulatory standards, and close coordination with production activities in a busy, fast-paced manufacturing setting.

This is a Permanent position based out of Racine, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $80000.00/yr.

This is a direct placement opportunity. Benefits will be provided upon start of assignment or earlier if requested.
