Our client is seeking a 2nd Shift Shop Supervisor to oversee mechanical teardown, inspection, repair, and reassembly of rotating equipment in a precision‑driven shop environment. This role is ideal for a hands‑on leader with strong turbomachinery experience and a commitment to safety, quality, and team development.


The Shop Supervisor leads 2nd‑shift operations, ensures safe and efficient workflow, supports technicians with technical guidance, and provides clear hand‑off communication to 1st shift. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, experience with rotating equipment, and the ability to coordinate shop activities in a fast‑paced environment.

Work Schedule: 2nd Shift | 2PM-11PM


Responsibilities:

  • Team Development: Coach and mentor technicians to build technical capability and strong work habits.
  • Balancing & Testing: Support basic dynamic balancing, machine‑tool setups, and hydro/gas leak testing.
  • Shift Leadership: Lead 2nd‑shift shop operations, assign work, and provide concise hand‑off notes to 1st shift.
  • Precision Measurement: Inspect and record measurements using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and precision gauges.
  • Quality & Safety: Identify non‑conformities, partner with Quality for resolution, and enforce safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Mechanical Teardown & Repair: Oversee disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of compressors, turbines, valves, and other rotating equipment.
  • Material Handling: Coordinate movement of components between work areas; operate or supervise use of overhead cranes, forklifts, and lifting equipment.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Strong safety mindset and adherence to quality standards.
  • Technical/vocational training in mechanical fields is a plus.
  • Ability to work 2nd shift plus overtime/weekends as needed.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Expert use of precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges)
  • Basic knowledge of dynamic balancing, machine tools, and leak testing.
  • Experience with overhead cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment.
  • Experience with teardown, inspection, repair, and reassembly of mechanical equipment.
  • Shop Supervision: Prior experience leading a shift, crew, or team in an industrial or machine‑shop environment.
  • Rotating Equipment Experience: Hands‑on repair of compressors, turbines, expanders, screw compressors, or similar equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Able to use hands for assembly, measurement, and tool operation.
  • Comfortable working around moving mechanical equipment, torches, and heavy shop tools.
