ISP Financial Specialist, Principal

The Idaho State Police (ISP) has a current opening for a Financial Specialist Principal in our Meridian headquarters location. This position will supervise and/or oversee the activities of a major financial system requiring the application of accounting/auditing theory, principles, and practices; perform related work.

Example of Duties:
- Prepare the annual budget request for the Agency (Including Brands and Racing)
- Utilize professional background to develop budget analysis, create financial reports, and prepare complex financial documents
- Advise management staff on budget and financial activities
- Research financial data for accuracy, trends, and variances to ensure compliance
- Supervise fiscal staff responsible for accounts receivable and training
- Provide feedback, prepare annual evaluations, give direction and training
- Facilitate year-end closing and yearly compensation plans
- Supervise or oversee the activities of a major financial system requiring the application of accounting and/or auditing theory, principles, and practices
- Oversee and develop a financial program integrating national accounting, auditing, or budgeting standards, federal and state guidelines and procedures, and agency policies
- Direct preparation or supervision of the preparation of a variety of professional financial documents and review/approve the final product
- Perform advanced professional financial skills
- Analyze, research, and maintain financial data
Minimum Qualifications:
Good knowledge of:
- Accounting principles and practices
- Supervisory practices
- Accounts Receivable and Trainings
Experience:
- Using computers to develop, analyze, and report on financial data
- Monitoring/reviewing internal financial controls
- Resolving technical accounting, auditing, or budgeting problems
- Preparing financial documents for management review
- Analyzing financial activities and recommending or implementing management actions
- Explaining complex data in simple terms
Preferred Qualifications:
- Microsoft Excel experience
- Prior experience in governmental accounting and/or reconciling to Idaho's State Accounting Systems (i.e.Luma, Enterprise Reporting, Pcards, Etc.)
- Purchasing experience
- Training experience
