3D Mechanical Modeler & Drafting Specialist

Based in: Pittsburgh (Cheswick)

Role snapshot

  • Generate accurate 3D models and produce fully detailed drawings (detail, assembly, manufacturing, inspection) with Bills of Materials from master assemblies, layouts, sketches, specifications, and general instructions.
  • Coordinate interrelated part/assembly drawings to assure proper function across interfaces; apply drafting standards to capture all views, notes, and acceptance criteria.
  • Revise and update existing drawings and models using marked prints and written/verbal inputs.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Graphic Designer on project team activities.
  • Research and apply information from manuals, standards, materials/process specifications, engineering references, and supplier catalogs to select dimensions, tolerances, and finishes; interpret customer/supplier drawings as needed.
  • Leverage the Product Life Cycle Manager (PLM) system to search, store, retrieve, and release datasets.
  • Perform minor design tasks under close supervision.
  • Conduct self-checks; prepare assemblies and models for clearance analyses.
  • Incorporate practical knowledge of machining, fabrication, and inspection processes to create manufacturable outputs.
  • Troubleshoot shop and supply management issues stemming from drawing data; implement corrections; escalate complex items to a higher-coded Graphic Designer or supervisor.
  • Engage with customers, suppliers, and other external partners during projects.
  • Keep current on modeling/drafting practices, materials, processes, and standard supplier components.
  • Support additional design/drafting functions of similar or less complexity as required.

Qualifications

  • US citizenship required due to DoD requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance.
  • Minimum 1 year of drafting experience.
  • Associate degree in design drafting (mechanical equipment focus) or equivalent.
  • High attention to detail; quick learner.
  • Capable of both independent and team-based work.
