Job Summary: 

The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repair tasks across buildings, equipment, and facility systems. This role requires basic practical skills and a working knowledge of multiple trades, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. The position supports higher-level trades personnel and ensures facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance and minor repairs on building systems, equipment, and infrastructure
  • Replace and repair components such as light fixtures, switches, receptacles, belts, and small motors
  • Conduct minor patching and repair of walls and ceilings, including painting and surface touch-ups
  • Repair or replace plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, water coolers, and lavatory components (washers, seats, etc.)
  • Install and replace carpet tiles and perform basic flooring repairs
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as filter changes and general cleaning of equipment and work areas
  • Assist with mechanical and maintenance work, including the use of hand tools and basic equipment
  • Support laborer functions such as moving materials and maintaining clean and organized workspaces
  • Assist higher-level trades personnel with maintenance and repair tasks as needed
  • Follow safety procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements at all times
  • Perform other related maintenance duties as assigned by management
  • This position is not a journeyman-level role and does not independently lead or manage jobs
  • Work is performed under the direction of supervisors or skilled trades personnel
  • Additional duties may be assigned based on operational needs

Education & Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 1–3 years of general maintenance or facilities experience preferred

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • Ability to use hand tools and basic maintenance equipment safely and effectively
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision
  • Good communication and teamwork skills

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials (up to 50 lbs or more as required)
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing
  • May work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces
  • Exposure to varying temperatures and environmental conditions
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
