Title: 418 - Equipment Operator III Organization: EPW: Street and Drainage Department: Street & Drainage Location: EPW Rate of Pay: $16.97
Job Summary The Equipment Operator III is responsible to operate complex heavy equipment necessary in the maintenance, repair and upkeep of facilities. The Equipment Operator III is responsible for crew leadership, routine maintenance procedures, safe and effective loading and operation, and storage. The Equipment Operator III works within a general outline of work to be performed; develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills
Minimum Education & Experience High school graduation or GED plus one year of experience.
Special Certifications & Licenses Job requires a current, valid Texas Class A Commercial Drivers License, as required by State Law for the operation of heavy machinery and trucks.
Independence & Judgement Average judgment; must recognize and resolve problems such as bad grammar, type of procedure to apply, where to refer call or correspondence without specified destination, when to change or sharpen blade on mower, whether there is a problem/malfunction with a piece of equipment that needs attention, etc.; may involve freedom in selection of work methods among approved routines, setting of priorities, or sequencing of tasks within established schedules.
Initiative & Ingenuity Low chance of error because work is routine/repetitive/simple/reviewed carefully; standard procedures: dont have to come up with creative solutions; refers anything unusual to supervisor. Occasionally requires interpretation of available options to apply to non-standard situations, day-to-day work drives priorities.
Supervisory & Responsibility Does not supervise.
Financial Responsibility Does not deal with money.
Level & Frequency of Outside Contact Infrequent or non-difficult contacts with other people inside and/or outside department; straightforward information exchange, etc.
Physical Demands Considerable heavy muscular effort or exertion but not continuous or long- sustained; demands more than ordinary strength or endurance, such as shoveling, carrying, etc. Ability to exert up to 35-50 lbs. of force occasionally or a negligible amount of energy frequently to lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Responsibility for Equipment & Property Responsible for high-risk or valuable items, such as big, expensive equipment, including light and heavy machinery, plant equipment, multiple computers and computer networks, etc.
Working Conditions Frequent exposure to outdoor elements; job often (several times per week) exposes person to physical danger; serious space problems; frequent situations that cause stress and tension in the execution of regular duties.
