The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the **Numu (Northern Paiute)**, **Newe (Western Shoshone)**, and **Washeshu (Washoe)**. These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival. Each group’s name means **“The People”** in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth. The Full-Time 477 Client Intake/Compliance Officer at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony plays a pivotal role in managing the intake and application processes for the RSIC 477 Program. This position ensures that all client files are compliant with the 477 Program requirements, facilitating referrals to the 477 Case Manager. Key responsibilities include interviewing applicants, assisting them in the documentation necessary to determine eligibility, and identifying referral resources across various sectors, both internal and external. The officer also provides essential orientation on program services, policies, and compliance standards to clients and community members.
Additionally, maintaining an organized filing system and entering data into the 477 Program data management system is crucial. As part of the role, the officer will submit monthly reports to the 477 Case Manager and uphold confidentiality standards in line with tribal and federal regulations. This position is integral to ensuring the smooth operation of the 477 Program and supporting the community's needs.
To excel as a Full-Time 477 Client Intake/Compliance Officer with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates should possess a blend of education and experience that enables effective processing of client applications for eligibility in social service or workforce development programs. An associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred, with a minimum of two years’ relevant experience being essential. Familiarity with federal regulations, particularly Public Law 102-477, as well as knowledge of the unique needs within Native American communities, is critical. Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet programs like MS Word and Excel is required, along with experience utilizing data tracking systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are vital for interacting with clients and community members. Additionally, candidates must maintain client confidentiality and demonstrate reliability with transportation and valid Nevada driver's license. Successful applicants should also be prepared to pass a background check and meet RSIC vehicle insurance standards. Qualified Indian preference applies.
