4K Long-Term Substitute Teacher

The Milwaukee Jewish Day School (MJDS) is a private, pluralistic school located in the North Shore of Milwaukee. Our families represent and embrace a diverse range of Jewish practices. Our school serves students in K3 through 8th grade. At MJDS, our outstanding teachers guide students on an interdisciplinary, student-owned learning journey, where a culture of innovation and Jewish values are pillars of our school. We are seeking a passionate, innovative, and engaging educator who is committed to meeting the needs of all students, collaborating with staff, and partnering with families.

Job Description:

The 4K teacher contributes to the school's mission and core values by delivering high-quality instruction. This educator designs creative, engaging, and differentiated lessons that address the diverse learning needs of students and aligns with the school's academic standards. The teacher engages in complex professional work while inspiring students to develop a passion for and excel in both disciplines. This position will run from approximately mid-August to mid-November.

Expectations:

  • Empowers all students to explore ideas, ask questions, and make mistakes

  • Designs rigorous lessons around specific concepts/skills that are relevant and standards-based, learner-centered, and emphasize inquiry and problem-solving

  • Monitors student progress through ongoing formative and summative assessments to guide instruction

  • Differentiates and implements instruction through flexible grouping, individualized lessons, enrichment, scaffolding, and student-generated questions

  • Fosters positive relationships with students, families, and staff, demonstrating patience, empathy, and adaptability

  • Utilizes effective classroom management strategies to help students view mistakes as opportunities to learn, grow, and repair

  • Partners with families and support team in student goal setting and provides suggestions and support to enhance the child's learning

  • Communicates regularly with families through newsletters, phone calls, emails, etc.

  • Engages in curricular and pedagogical professional development opportunities on and off campus

  • Establishes professional goals based upon work with their Learning Partner and the goals of MJDS

  • Collaborates with colleagues in designing, implementing, and assessing best practices in teaching and learning

  • Participates in the life of MJDS through attendance at school events, committee meetings, and extracurricular activities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A deep understanding of math and science content

  • Strong knowledge of best practices in math and science instruction

  • Ability to differentiate instruction in mixed-ability classrooms

  • Effective classroom management skills with the ability and the desire to work with students with diverse learning needs

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with others and maintain positive professional relationships

  • Strong degree of self-direction, motivation, energy, and enthusiasm

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field

  • Valid teaching license or certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of early childhood pedagogy

  • Early childhood classroom experience
