Position Duties
Basic Function:

Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the 5C Experience Mentor II will develop and implement student activities for the 5C Experience, including supervising daily activities and providing direct instructional assistance to students.
Representative Duties:
  • Communicate with the Director, students, parents, and teachers to facilitate and promote tutorial services, resolve issues, and exchange information.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans.
  • Coordinate and supervise camp activities.
  • Maintain an effective, pleasant, and caring camp environment for students.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Techniques and methods used in mentoring.
  • Operation of computer terminal and data entry techniques.
  • Applicable laws, rules, and regulations related to assigned activities.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Record-keeping techniques.
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Modern office procedures and equipment.
Ability to:
  • Work effectively with the Program Director, Instructors, Mentor, campers, and college staff.
  • Provide direct instructional assistance to campers.
  • Direct recreational activities for campers.
  • Operate computer terminal and related software applications.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
  • Plan and organize work.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Participate in 2-day pre-service training.

  • Indoor & outdoor work environment.
  • Considerable distraction from office activities.
Physical Abilities:
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a keyboard.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Bending at the waist to assist students.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information.

Qualification

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
One year tutor/mentor experience and completed a minimum of 30 units of college coursework or equivalent, with preference given to students who have completed education courses or are interested in pursuing coursework or careers in the field of education.
