Position Summary
The 5S Facilitator is a temporary, site-based role responsible for leading the end-to-end implementation of the 5S methodology across the facility. The site currently does not have a formal 5S system in place and is targeting a complete, structured 5S implementation within a six-month timeline, followed by stabilization, sustainment, and capability transfer activities.
This role will lead 5S  events, execute the site rollout plan, and establish 5S standards aligned with the  Operational Excellence framework. The Facilitator will work closely with the Operational Excellence Coach, site leadership, and operations teams. A key responsibility is preparing and transitioning long-term ownership of 5S sustainment to a designated site specialist or junior engineer before the assignment concludes.
5S Implementation and Deployment
  • Lead the design and execution of a site-wide 5S rollout aligned with the  Operational Excellence framework.
  • Drive implementation of all five pillars of 5S: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain.
  • Develop and execute a detailed implementation plan by area, including sequencing, milestones, and ownership.
  • Ensure 5S standards are practical, visual, and integrated into daily operations.
 Leadership
  • Plan and lead 5S events across manufacturing, warehouse, maintenance, and support areas.
  • Facilitate cross-functional teams during  events, ensuring engagement, accountability, and timely completion of action items.
  • Track and report  outcomes, including improvements in safety, efficiency, visual management, and space utilization.
Coaching, Capability Building, and Knowledge Transfer
  • Train supervisors, operators, and support teams on 5S principles, standards, and expectations.
  • Coach leaders on sustaining 5S through leader standard work, Gemba walks, and tiered accountability.
  • Develop and mentor a site-based specialist or junior engineer who will assume long-term ownership of 5S sustainment.
  • Create documentation, standard work, audit routines, and visual management tools to support ongoing success.
  • Execute a structured handoff plan to ensure long-term ownership is fully transitioned before the end of the assignment.
Sustainment and Governance
  • Establish 5S audit processes, visual scorecards, and escalation procedures.
  • Support site leadership in embedding 5S into daily management systems.
  • Identify sustainment risks and lead corrective actions to prevent regression during and after the transition period.
Communication and Change Management
  • Serve as the primary site contact for 5S implementation activities.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and support needs to site leadership through clear, data-driven updates.
  • Promote a culture of ownership, discipline, and continuous improvement.
Key Success Factors
  • Successful completion of a site-wide 5S implementation within six months.
  • Adoption of clear, visual, and standardized 5S practices throughout operations.
  • Development of a trained site specialist or junior engineer capable of independently sustaining and improving 5S processes.
  • Measurable improvements in safety, organization, workflow, and visual management.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience leading 5S implementations or Lean initiatives in a manufacturing or operations environment.
  • Experience facilitating  events and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Working knowledge of Lean principles, visual management, and operational excellence systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, change-intensive environments.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and leadership skills across all organizational levels.
  • Hands-on, shop floor-oriented leadership style.
Required: Experience leading 5S implementations or Lean initiatives in a manufacturing or operations environment.
