Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver standards-based instruction aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards for English Language Arts.
- Develop lessons that engage students in reading comprehension, literary analysis, writing, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and listening skills.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and differentiated practices to meet the diverse needs of learners.
- Administer and analyze formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide instruction.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress.
- Create and maintain a safe, respectful, and positive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and responsible behavior.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and accomplishments.
- Collaborate with colleagues in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to improve instruction and student outcomes.
- Participate in curriculum development, data analysis, and school improvement initiatives.
- Implement accommodations and modifications as required by Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, and English Learner plans.
- Support the development of students'' social-emotional skills and foster positive relationships with students and families.
- Supervise students during assigned duties, activities, and events.
- Participate in district and building professional development opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information in accordance with district policies and state and federal laws.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate middle grades endorsement in English Language Arts.
- Knowledge of middle school instructional practices and adolescent development.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and collaboration.

Position Summary
The 6-8 Grade English Language Arts Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language development to middle school students. The teacher creates a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic achievement, critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication skills while supporting the social and emotional growth of students.
