Step into the heart of precision manufacturing
Picture your day beginning on the shop floor, where you partner with seasoned machinists to stage oversized workpieces, prepare tooling for CNC operations, and keep production moving. You’ll rig and relocate massive parts with overhead cranes, hone bores to spec, and perform hands-on machining tasks like tapping, reaming, grinding, and deburring. With safety at the forefront, you’ll read prints, verify tolerances with micrometers and dial indicators, and maintain a clean, orderly work area—including dumping chip hoppers—so the team can deliver flawless parts on time.
What you’ll do
- Assist machinists with setup of very large workpieces for machining operations
- Support CNC processes by gathering/managing tooling and assisting during part setups
- Manage tooling inventory and stage tooling for upcoming jobs
- Rig and safely move large parts with overhead cranes and rigging gear
- Hone bore diameters to specification
- Perform basic machining: ream holes; tap and chase threads by hand; grind and deburr after machining
- Operate a variety of shop equipment and hand tools
- Use precision measurement (ID/OD micrometers, dial indicators) to confirm tolerances
- Read and interpret machining drawings, including dimensions and tolerances
- Dump chip hoppers and uphold a clean, organized work area
What you bring
- 1–2 years in a machine shop or manufacturing setting
- Basic knowledge of shop tooling, equipment, and terminology
- Comfort around large parts, overhead cranes, and heavy machinery
- Ability to read and interpret basic machining drawings
- Experience deburring, tapping, and using hand tools in a shop
- Safety-first attitude and eagerness to learn; training provided for machinery
Preferred
- Rigging experience
- Familiarity with micrometers and indicators
- Background assisting with large-part machining or CNC setups
Proficiencies
