Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled System Design Engineer specializing in Storage and Data Management with expertise in storage technologies, networking, and server configuration across both hardware and software domains. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Windows and Linux environments and will play a critical role in architecting and implementing edge computing and storage solutions within a globally distributed, secure VPN infrastructure. This role supports a multi-site centralized compute and storage hub, enabling advanced aircraft data analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect, deploy, and maintain edge computing and storage infrastructure across more than 20 global edge sites.
  • Design and implement secure VPN connectivity linking edge sites to a centralized multi-site compute and storage hub.
  • Manage and optimize storage technologies, including SAN, NAS, and other relevant storage solutions.
  • Configure and maintain networking and server hardware and software in both Windows and Linux environments.
  • Collaborate with and direct cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams to ensure consistent implementation and maintenance of edge sites.
  • Oversee the management of over 10TB of binary data generated annually per site, totaling approximately 200TB of raw binary data across all sites.
  • Support the integration and operation of locally developed software tools used for aircraft data analytics.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools using Python and PowerShell to streamline deployment, monitoring, and maintenance tasks.
  • Identify opportunities to improve business processes, advance technical capabilities, and reduce required chargeable hours.
  • Develop and present business proposals based on identified opportunities to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Develop acquisition and spending plans to support infrastructure growth, maintenance, and technology upgrades.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and availability across all storage and compute resources.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex storage, networking, and server issues.
  • Provide support outside of regular business hours as required to maintain system availability and performance.
  • Document architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.

Required Skills:

  • BS Degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least nine years of experience in designing and maintaining a secure, resilient and stable distributed environment consisting of 20+ sites.
  • Proven experience with storage technologies (SAN, NAS, object storage, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts and secure VPN implementation.
  • Experience with server configuration and management in both Windows and Linux environments.
  • Willingness and ability to provide support outside of normal business hours as needed.
  • Proficiency in Python and PowerShell scripting for development and maintenance of automation tools.
  • Experience developing acquisition and spending plans aligned with business and technical objectives.
  • Familiarity with edge computing architectures and distributed storage systems.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience in aerospace or data analytics domains.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certifications related to storage (e.g., SNIA, NetApp, EMC) or networking (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+).
  • Experience with scripting or automation tools beyond Python and PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices in distributed environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and develop business proposals to support them.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate multiple teams across different locations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Must be U.S. Person for purposes of Export Compliance. Reference Number: VEVBA
