    Description

    Job Responsibilities
    • Formulate, optimize, and qualify sealants, adhesives (structural and non-structural), elastomers, gaskets, and rubber compounds for application-specific requirements (adhesion, flexibility, environmental resistance, outgassing, curing behavior).
    • Define material specifications, acceptance criteria, and test methods for SAR materials and assemblies.
    • Design, execute, and interpret tests: adhesion (lap shear, peel), cure kinetics, rheology/viscosity, hardness (shore A/D), tensile/elongation, compression set, fatigue/cycling, environmental exposure (temperature, humidity, UV), outgassing, and chemical resistance.
    • Develop and maintain application processes (dispensing, priming, curing, bonding, pot life control) and process controls for lab and manufacturing environments.
    • Lead root cause analysis for sealant/adhesive/rubber failures; implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and track effectiveness.
    • Support manufacturing scale-up and process transfer: create work instructions, develop process control plans, conduct trials, and provide operator training.
    • Qualify and audit suppliers for raw materials, adhesives, and elastomeric components; review supplier test reports and certificates of conformance.
    • Ensure compliance with industry and regulatory standards (ASTM, D6, aerospace outgassing standards).
    • Maintain lab equipment (calibrate rheometers, ovens, adhesion testers, environmental chambers) and inventory of materials/consumables.
    • Prepare technical reports, test plans, and qualification packages; present results to cross-functional stakeholders (Design, Quality, Production, Procurement)

    Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
    • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
    • Typically 3+ years hands-on experience with adhesives, sealants, elastomers, or rubber formulations and testing (less for entry-level; 5+ years preferred for mid-level roles)
    • Practical experience with adhesion testing, cure evaluation, and mechanical testing of elastomers
    Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
    • Master’s or PhD in relevant field or equivalent advanced experience
    • Experience with structural adhesives, silicone and polyurethane sealants, anaerobic adhesives, RTVs, epoxies, and elastomer compounding
    • Prior industry experience in aerospace, automotive, defense, or industrial sealing systems
