Position Overview

Invent Learning Hub ILH is seeking a passionate, rigorous, and student-centered English Language Arts Teacher to serve students in grades 7-8. The ideal candidate believes literacy is the foundation for academic success and lifelong opportunity and is committed to developing strong readers, writers, thinkers, and communicators.

This educator will design engaging standards-aligned instruction that challenges students to analyze complex texts, construct evidence-based arguments, and develop their authentic voice - all within a structured and supportive classroom environment.

Essential Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

Plan and deliver engaging standards-aligned ELA instruction for grades 7-8 aligned to Indiana Academic Standards.

Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, informational text analysis, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, and structured writing.

Develop students ability to cite textual evidence and write argumentative, narrative, and informational essays.

Use diverse, culturally responsive texts that reflect students experiences and expand their perspectives.

Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with IEPs and English Learners.

Use formative and summative data to drive instructional decisions and improve outcomes.

Classroom Culture

Establish and maintain a structured, respectful, and academically focused classroom environment.

Build strong relationships with middle school students and families.

Foster a love of reading and writing while maintaining high expectations.

Promote perseverance, critical thinking, and intellectual curiosity.

Assessment & Growth

Prepare students for state assessments and high school readiness.

Monitor student progress consistently and implement targeted interventions as needed.

Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth.

Collaboration & Professional Engagement

Collaborate with grade-level and content teams to align curriculum and expectations.

Participate actively in professional development and instructional coaching cycles.

Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding student progress.

Contribute positively to ILHs collaborative, solutions-oriented culture.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Education, English, or related field
  • Valid Indiana teaching license or ability to obtain one
  • Demonstrated knowledge of middle school literacy instruction
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Commitment to educational equity and closing achievement gaps

Preferred

  • Experience teaching middle school ELA grades 7-8
  • Experience in a charter school or high-accountability environment
  • Familiarity with data-driven instruction and MTSS frameworks
  • Experience preparing students for state assessments
