REDDING SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE OF POSITION Intermediate Teacher (4-8) PRIMARY FUNCTION Provides an educational program for pupils in grades 4,5,6,8, or a combination thereof, and assists in other school programs as designed. DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Building Principal MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health, art, physical education, and music to pupils utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities. In a departmentalized or open space situation, teaches one or any combination of these subjects, as assigned by the principal. 2. Maintains the instructional program in music, physical education, and library skills as presented by specialist teachers. 3. Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. 4. Provides planned learning experiences in order to motivate pupils and best utilize the available time for instruction. 5. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. 6. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. 7. Aids in establishing and maintaining standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. 8. Cooperates in establishing standards of expected student progress ad skills with techniques for their assessment. 9. Evaluates pupil s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents on the individual pupil s progress. 10. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems. 11. Creates, with assistance from pupils, a functional and attractive environment for learning. 12. Works to improve pupil positive self-image by creating a learning atmosphere which reflects a positive, accepting, and understanding approach favorable to learning and personal growth. 13. Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities. 14. Cooperates by implementing programs for the gifted in accordance with the District Mentally Gifted Minors Program. 15. Performs basic attendance accounting. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies, and maintains required inventory records. 2. Insures a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting, and ventilation to the extent possible. 3. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities unless pupils are with other personnel designated to supervise. 4. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program. 5. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school assignment and/or on a district level. 6. Participates in district and faculty committees and shares in the sponsorship of student activities. 7. Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other para-professionals, where applicable. 8. Completes school and/or district level reports, surveys, etc., upon request. 9. May contribute to professional training of future teachers. 10. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Current California Multiple Subject Credential • EL Auth/CLAD Certification Application must be fully completed. In addition to completed application, the following items must be submitted: Cover Letter Resume At least two current letters of recommendation (Transcripts required if hired) You will be prompted to complete Target Sketch. Completion is a requirement for all applicants.
