Newtown Public Schools Position Title: 8th Grade Science - Long Term Sub School of Vacancy: Newtown Middle School Starting Date: 2026-2027 School Year (October 12 - Dec 31)) Salary Range: Per teacher contract Responsibilities: The teacher will provide science instruction to students as a member of a six person team and will perform other classroom teaching duty assignments consistent with the requirements of the position. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have: Current Science Connecticut Certification (K-8, 4-8 or 7-12). Interest in working in a high-performing district in a middle school environment and commitment to promoting a positive culture; Ability to work with others in attaining team objectives and accomplishing interdisciplinary objectives for students, including technology integration; Evidence of thorough understanding of unique needs of adolescents and how their characteristics impact curriculum and instruction; Evidence of expertise in working with children in a heterogeneous classroom setting and ability to differentiate instruction; Familiarity of and/or experience in teaching science and understanding of best practices in science; Familiarity and/or experience in utilizing small group instruction to support a wide-range of learners; Effective classroom management skills that promote a positive learning environment; Willingness to participate in collaborative lesson planning; Strong written and verbal communication skills The Newtown Public School District values the benefits that a diverse workforce brings to our students and community.
