Are You the Go‑To Pro for Heavy Plate Fit‑Ups?

If reading a blueprint, laying out thick plate, and fitting complex assemblies is your sweet spot, this role is for you. Cannonball Recruiting is partnering with a steel fabrication and machining shop in Irving, TX that produces large steel products for customers throughout the U.S.

What’s on the Table

  • Pay: $24–$28 per hour (depending on weld test results)
  • Schedules:
    • 1st: Monday–Thursday, 6:00am–4:30pm
    • 2nd: Monday–Thursday, 5:00pm–3:30am
    • Overtime on Friday and Saturday as needed

Your Mission

Own the fabrication process from print to product. You will position, align, and fit parts to spec; perform MIG welding (and use Flux Core, TIG, and Stick when the job calls for it); verify results; document progress; keep equipment humming; and champion safety—all while delivering on the organization’s production goals.

How You’ll Execute

  • Study engineering drawings, routers, and BOMs to plan materials and sequence
  • Lay out and inspect metal stock; mark bend and cut lines with allowances for thickness and weld/machine shrinkage
  • Use jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, hammers, braces, clamps, ropes, and bolts to achieve precise fit‑ups
  • Tack components and complete welds to blueprint requirements
  • Confirm conformance using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes
  • Move and set parts manually and with forklifts, hoists, and cranes
  • Design/build templates and fixtures that make repeat work efficient
  • Straighten warped or bent parts using sledges, hand torches, straightening presses, or bulldozers
  • Communicate with supervisors and peers by phone, in writing, email, and in person
  • Juggle multiple tasks and priorities; lift 50+ pounds; take on other duties as assigned

What You Bring

  • 3–5 years of experience as a steel fabrication fitter/fabricator
  • Expertise reading and interpreting blueprints
  • Hands‑on fabrication from drawings
  • MIG proficiency; plus familiarity with Flux Core, TIG, and Stick on heavy plate
  • Skilled with power tools and hand tools
  • Understanding of crane operation and shop material handling
  • Confident using a tape measure and doing basic math
