SAP ABAP Technical Lead – S/4HANA Upgrade

We are seeking a highly experienced SAP ABAP Technical Lead with 12+ Years experience to support and oversee the ECC to S/4HANA On-Premise system conversion. This is a client-side role responsible for ABAP technical governance, SPAU/SPDD adjustments, ATC configuration, custom code remediation oversight, and ABAP code quality reviews delivered by the System Integrator.
This role will act as the technical authority for ABAP and custom developments, ensuring that all remediation and development activities meet S/4HANA and HANA best practices. This role will combine hands-on execution and technical oversight, including performing critical SPAU/SPDD adjustments and leading detailed ABAP code reviews to ensure remediation quality and S/4HANA compliance

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and validate S/4HANA Readiness Check 2.0 and Simplification Item impacts. 
  • Configure and manage ABAP Test Cockpit (ATC) for S/4HANA custom code analysis. 
  • Help define, govern and oversee the custom code remediation strategy (remediate, retire, replace, redesign). 
  • Perform and own SPAU and SPDD adjustments during upgrade cycles. 
  • Collaborate with the Basis team to plan, set up, and validate S/4HANA upgrade and parallel landscape environments (Sandbox, Development, QA, Production). 
  • Define and govern the dual maintenance strategy and process to ensure code changes are properly synchronized across ECC and S/4HANA parallel landscapes during the upgrade period.
  • Review and approve all remediated custom code and transports from SI partner. 
  • Conduct detailed ABAP code reviews to ensure S/4HANA and HANA optimization standards are followed. 
  • Ensure usage of HANA optimized techniques such as CDS Views, AMDP, and code pushdown where applicable. 
  • Validate SI partner technical approach for SUM DMO, transport strategy, and upgrade activities. 
  • Support unit testing, integration testing, and defect resolution for custom code.
  • Monitor and review custom code performance using ST05, SAT, SQL Monitor etc. 
  • Review and define strategies for code dual maintenance 
  • Manage SPAU cleanup, performance tuning, and stabilization support post go-live. 
  • Ensure technical documentation and knowledge transfer are completed by SI partner. 

Key Skills:
  • Strong SAP ABAP development experience (12+ years). 
  • ECC to S/4HANA System Conversion (Brownfield) experience. 
  • SPAU and SPDD adjustment experience. 
  • ABAP Test Cockpit (ATC) configuration and usage. 
  • S/4HANA Readiness Check 2.0. 
  • Custom Code Adaptation for S/4HANA. 
  • Simplification Item Catalog / Simplification Database. 
  • ABAP on HANA performance optimization. 
  • CDS Views and AMDP. 
  • Transport Management (STMS / ChaRM). 
  • Experience reviewing and approving ABAP code and transports. 
  • Experience working with System Integrators on S/4HANA upgrades. 
  • Strong debugging and performance tuning skills. 

Preferred Skills:
  • SAP Fiori and OData development. 
  • Solution Manager ChaRM. 
  • Good Understanding of SUM with DMO process. 
  • SAP Migration Cockpit (LTMC / LTMOM). 
  • Post go-live stabilization and SPAU cleanup experience.
