Compensa tion: $23.00 - $24.00 per hour for part-time; $47,840 - $49,920 annually for full-time Vermon t Adult Learning: Vermon t Adult Learning (VAL) is a private nonpr ofit and a member of Vermon t's Adult Education and Literacy System. Working closely with other nonpr ofits, state agencies, and schools, we serve seven of Vermon t's 14 counties. We provide instruction in basic academic skills, work readiness, and English languag e skills; Adult Diploma Program (ADP) and GED prep; and transition to colleg e and career services. Our programs are free to Vermon t residen ts, age 16 and older , who are not enrolled in a public school. Purpose of the Job: The Adult Basic Education (ABE) Math/Science Instruct or teaches adult learner s who want to enhance their founda tional and high school-le vel academic skills in mathema tics, science, health literacy, personal finance, digit al literacy, and critic al thinking. The ABE Instruct or develop s and instructs proficiency -based courses across various content areas to support studen ts in achie ving their goals, which may include impr oving math literacy, obtaining a high school diploma or equiv alency , preparing for the workforce, or transitioning to postsecondar y educ ation. The instruction is centered on the needs and goals of learner s, is cultur ally responsiv e, and aligns with state and feder al adult educ ation standar ds. Ther e may be opportunities to work additional hour s remot ely or in the evenings. To ensur e quality services, VAL uses a weigh ted system to balance time for instruction, documen tation, planning , mee tings/ commit tee work, and professional developmen t. Essen tial Functions & Responsibilities: Provides high-quality individual and small group instruction, remot ely and in-per son, to VAL studen ts. Provides consis tent learner -cen tered instruction in founda tional and high school-le vel skills to support Vermon t's Adult Diploma Program, as well as GED prep and work readiness. Teaches applied, academic, and interper sonal skills to adults. Develop s effectiv e proficiency -based units and lessons and instructional materials. Effectiv ely teaches studen ts with varied educ ational skills, backgr ounds, and ages. Comple tes requir ed paper work, other documen tation, and data entry in a timely and accur ate manner . Addr esses individualiz ed educ ational needs in group instructional settings. Focuses efforts and attention on achie ving program goals and objectiv es. Participa tes in statewide and organizational-le vel professional developmen t. Main tains professional standar ds of confiden tiality . Collabor ates effectiv ely with other teacher s and staff in helping studen ts realiz e their goals. Qualific ations, Knowledg e & Skills: A bachelor 's degr ee is requir ed. Emphasis on educ ation plus relevant teaching experience is preferred. Teaching license preferred, but not requir ed. Experience designing units and lessons to mee t established standar ds. Experience with at-risk studen ts and involvemen t with alterna tive educ ational systems preferred. Demons trated experience success fully supporting diverse studen ts, including BIPOC studen ts, English Languag e Learner s, LGBTQIA+ studen ts, and those experiencing the effects of poverty, homelessness, and single parenthood. Experience teaching studen ts with learning differences and other signific ant barrier s to mains tream educ ational programs. Willingness to teach project -based and problem-based classes and workshop s. Strong technology skills and the ability to leverage these skills to enhance studen t learning. Able to utiliz e distance learning strategies related to videoc onferences, collabor ative projects, and accessing remot e resour ces. Mus t possess strong interper sonal, oral, and written English communic ation skills. Requir es the ability to work well independen tly and as part of a team. Strong organizational skills and comput er compe tency are needed for adminis trative tasks. Working Conditions & Environmen t: Will requir e working very occasional weekend and evening hour s. Occasional travel will be requir ed utilizing personal transport ation. Requir es reliable transport ation with a valid driver's license. Long periods of sitting may be needed.
