About the Opportunity

Job Summary:

The Academic Advisor advises and supports College of Engineering undergraduate students with all aspects of course planning and registration from Orientation through completion of degree requirements at the time of degree conferral. Responsibilities include facilitating registration assistance, providing guidance on add/drop and withdrawal processes, and supporting students through major exploration. The advisor maintains accurate and up-to-date student academic records and facilitates academic support workshops to promote student success. This role also involves monitoring student academic progress and providing proactive support and outreach, as well as serving as a referral resource for students experiencing academic or personal challenges by connecting them to appropriate campus support services. The advisor additionally assists with the planning and execution of various college events and programs.

The Academic Advisor serves as a departmental liaison and advisor to upper-level students, underrepresented populations, and pathway and incoming transfer students. This includes reviewing academic records to evaluate progress toward and completion of degree requirements, as well as providing interpretation of college and university policies and procedures to students. The advisor also plays a key role in supporting college and university retention initiatives through proactive advising interventions and data-informed outreach.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, or related field required.

  • Previous experience in higher education recommended.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills are required.

  • Must be able to work well as a team member with a variety of constituencies, work independently and take initiative; attention to detail is imperative.

  • Teaching experience strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, and registration/advising support tools such as Salesforce, and Degree Audit programs preferred.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Serve as academic advisor for all undergraduate students in the College of Engineering, interpreting and explaining College and University policies and procedures. Communicate degree and graduation options, program requirements, and curriculum changes, and provide support for schedule planning and registration. Follow up on progress reports and conduct academic review each term to assess student academic progress, working closely with students experiencing academic difficulty. Verify completion of degree requirements and conduct pre-graduation clearance reviews. Serve as liaison between students, department faculty, and cooperative education coordinators, and refer students to appropriate campus resources.

  • Provide support for overall undergraduate academic advising team responsibilities, including participation in New Student and Transfer Orientation sessions, Welcome Week events, and college graduation ceremonies. Facilitate advising workshops and assist with departmental and college student events. Support the assessment of advising programs and practices, and participate in planning discussions to develop and enhance advising operations. Serve on College/University committees, support pathway student transition into the college and advising initiatives, and participate in professional development activities.
