Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience working in an academic advising, counseling, or student services setting (student experience may be considered).

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Understanding of NCAA Compliance Rules (played a Division I, II, or III sport, coached in collegiate athletics, or as a staff member in a collegiate athletic program). Previous experience with a Division I Athletic Program. Experience in higher education. Previous experience working with at-risk students.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Academic Advisor I is an entry level position that will support the functions of the Academic Success area within Student-Athlete Development in the Department of Athletics under the direct supervision of a higher-level staff member. Incumbent will provide support to student-athletes with respect to academic planning and academic advising by assisting students with the interpretation of established academic rules and regulations, including prerequisites, general education requirements, and NCAA and University requirements. The Academic Advisor I will execute all duties in compliance with NCAA policies and procedures following institutional guidelines.

Academic Advising:

  • Provide academic support to assigned student-athletes by monitoring academic progress, assisting with course planning, and helping students meet NCAA and University general education requirements using established academic plans, advising materials, policies, and procedures. Coordinate study hall attendance, communicate with coaches and campus partners as needed, and support students identified as academically at-risk. Assist with tutor scheduling, study hall operations, and other academic success initiatives and programs within the Student-Athlete Development Center under the direction of a higher-level staff member. Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with NCAA, conference, and institutional policies and established departmental procedures.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assist with supporting the academic success of student-athletes by communicating with coaches, athletics staff, and university staff members regarding academic progress and eligibility requirements under direct supervision and in accordance with established guidelines . Help prepare and distribute academic reports, assist with course registration and textbook distribution, and support the collection of academic information for NCAA, conference, and institutional reporting using established formats, processes, and reporting requirements . Serve as a resource for student-athletes and assist with various academic support initiatives as assigned by providing routine information and referring complex questions or concerns to the appropriate higher-level staff member.

New Student Orientation:

  • Provide the Office of Orientation and Transition Programs with accurate records for all incoming student-athletes, as well as those who will be in attendance at Orientation Day. Participate in executing various academic advising projects and services related to onboarding and orienting new students, including new student summer/winter programs, the first-year seminar, and new student orientation workshops using established materials, schedules, procedures, and training. The Academic Advisor I will also assist with the department's recruiting initiatives as assigned and under the direction of a higher-level staff member.

Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.

In addition to the employee''s base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
