Position Summary:
Bastyr University is seeking an Academic Advisor/Degree Coordinator to join the advising team in our Registrar's Office. This person will advise graduate level students. Academic advising is a collaborative relationship between a student and an academic advisor. As graduate students, many of these students have complex lives needing personal attention. The intent of this partnership is to advise and collaborate with students in completing their programs on time. A high degree of attention to detail is required in this position.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Advise students on their academic progress, degree requirements, and University policies as they relate to their programs.
Develop and maintain systems to accurately and efficiently track student progress for on-time graduation.
Coordinate with the academic departments regarding the offerings of didactic courses and sections; analyze final schedule and use problem-solving skills to create an individualized quarterly plan for the students.
Conduct quarterly registration, manage adds and drops, academic planning and tracking (didactic), auditing, posting degrees, and other general registrar procedures.
Informs students regarding alternatives, limitations, and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g., adding, dropping, and withdrawing from courses; change of program or track, or change of major.)
Answers student inquiries and resolves problems related to curriculum and course prerequisites, referring to catalogues, written course descriptions, and other appropriate sources.
Coordinate the evaluation of transfer/waiver coursework.
Keep current on changes in accreditation policies and advise students on exam and licensing issues and procedures. Send exam verification and graduation information to licensing agencies.
Assist with office operations as needed, including updating the registrar's internal website.
