Status: Full-Time Months Worked: 12 Month Job Summary:

The Senior Academic Advisor primary reporting line is to the Campus Director (Metro or Florham) of the Center for Academic Advising and Student Success (CAASS); in the absence of the Director (e.g., vacation or illness), the secondary reporting line is to the Campus Assistant Director of CAASS. The primary responsibilities of this position are to assist with mentoring and training new Academic Advisors, assist in the development and implementation of advising initiatives, serve as CRM Advise "super users" for other advisors, and assist in the analysis of data to improve CAASS processes and student outcomes. Senior Academic Advisor also engages in all student advisement services for undergraduates, particularly complex student populations (e.g., international students, transfer students). Works closely with the academic programs (deans, chairs, faculty) to maximize support and retention of advisees.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in related field required. Master's degree preferred. Equivalent related experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  2. Minimum of three years of experience in an academic environment preferred related to student advisement, records/registration, admissions, recruitment, or other higher education experience.

  3. Excellent human relations and oral and written communication skills, with a sensitivity to student needs.

  4. Computer proficiency, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, database software and web navigation. Proficiency in Canvas X16 graphic design program and/or Colleague system (i.e., University database system) a plus.

  5. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  6. Willing and able to work non-standard hours as required, including evenings and weekends.

  7. Valid driver's license and accessibility to a car for occasional travel to either the Metro or Florham campus location if needed.

  8. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check.
