The School of Arts & Sciences at UAS is seeking an academic advisor to support our students in the departments of Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences.

As an Academic Advisor, you will play a vital role in supporting student success by providing personalized guidance throughout their academic journey. Serving as a trusted resource, you will help students understand degree requirements, develop educational plans, navigate university policies and procedures, and connect with campus resources that promote academic achievement and personal growth.

This position requires building meaningful relationships with a diverse student population while empowering students to make informed decisions about their educational and career goals. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and campus partners, the Academic Advisor helps foster student persistence, engagement, and timely degree completion through proactive advising, problem-solving, and student advocacy.

The ideal candidate is student-centered, approachable, and committed to creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where all students feel supported and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of academic advising experience or two years of working with college students on issues such as advising, academic success, academic coaching, counseling, orientation, student support, or retention services.

Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited post-secondary institution, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in a relevant area of study

Experience using databases like Banner, OnBase, and/or Navigate (EAB)

Knowledge and skills for using DegreeWorks or similar degree tracking system.

Experience working with faculty and students on a college/university campus

Position Details:

This position is located on the Juneau campus in Juneau, Alaska. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
