Academic Coach

Position: Academic Coach Organizational Scop: Reporting directly to the Instructional Leadership Team and working under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement with Westford Education Association - Unit G, the Academic Coach advances the mission of WPS by developing curious lifelong learners who are responsible, empathetic members of the community, demonstrating innovation through a wide variety of opportunities within inclusive, joyful learning environments that embrace their variability and honor their diversity. Position Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality targeted academic instruction in the areas of literacy, numeracy and executive functioning to students qualifying for additional tiers of instructional support
• Support the collection of data to inform instruction and monitor student progress
• Collaborate with teachers, school counselors, and administration to analyze data and determine next steps
• Skillfully support and facilitate student learning of grade level content and standards
• Collaborate regularly with educators and other professional staff -to communicate students'' needs and progress in order to provide appropriate support for each student
• Develop a schedule to instruct assigned students
• Capture student benchmarking by maintaining accurate and complete records
• Follow professional practices consistent with the district;''s policies, practices and vision when working with students, parents/caregivers and colleagues
• Maintain regular communication with classroom teachers about student progress and instructional plans (this may be included in the bullet above collaborates regularly
• Promote equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, including, implementing specific strategies for students with special needs and 504 plans and/or English learners (EL)
• The omission of specific duties here does not exclude them from the position''s responsibilities if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position

Job Qualifications: The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor degree or higher and/or demonstrate professional training by evidence of licensure or certification. They will have excellent communication skills both written and verbal and demonstrate interpersonal skills. They possess the ability to relate well with students, staff, administrators, parents/caregivers and the community. Physical Demands: Physical demands vary in keeping with the assignment and age of the students, but the position generally requires the ability to walk and stand on tile flooring, to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds, and to bend and twist regularly at the waist, knees and neck. Depending on the assignment, much of the work is performed in a typical classroom environment requiring menial to light physical effort. This may include everyday discomforts and distractions typical of a school setting, such as proximity to students and colleagues, temperature variations, frequent interruptions and moderate noise. This position requires computer skills and standard office equipment. Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property, and assist in fire and other emergencies drills as required by law and School Committee policy. Terms of Employment: The Academic Coach is a Westford Public Schools Unit G position. Terms of employment, including evaluation and salary are covered by the provisions of the Unit G collective bargaining agreement currently in effect.
